holidays are tough

I don't know about you guys, but it was tough staying on plan this weekend. I'm up to 168 today. Three cookouts in one weekend is just hard to do and not get off plan. I did enjoy it though so really no regrets, just back at it today, right? Of course, the boss just came in and said he's taking us to Pei Wei for lunch - chicken lettuce wraps for me instead of the apple and soup I brought for lunch. Constant adjustments to the plan is not a bad thing just a REAL LIFE thing.

Hi Debbie,

Oh, about REAL LIFE......I was doing o.k. on the Mem. challenge and then my routine got changed. I guess that's when "my challenge" really kicked in.

I had posted about being down a few. I was really kicking up the exercise (mostly walking). But the eating out also got kicked up.

I actually went up 4! I thought I was supposed to go down 4. Anyway I am down 2 and really working on the hydration.

I know where I went wrong. For me eating out brings on the sodium and I add some carbs.

We have to keep watch and NEVER give up!

I just had a birthday, and my committment is to making this a year of short term and long term goals. The short term ones are like meeting the 64 oz water (I do tea and Crystal Light, too) and getting in some exercise. The long term is to never gaining all the weight back and stop this healthy lifestyle.

I'm at a library and going to lose my time so I may need to re-log in.

Just hang in here Deb, we can DO this!!!!!

Barb

P.S. Having a set back is not the same as giving up your journey.

Thanks Barb. Glad you checked in. Eating out is soooo hard even when you make good choices, you can't control how it is prepared. We can do this. Never give up is absolutely my motto!

Life happens. I have eaten horribly for the past few because of the move. I am back on track but I am not sweating the slip because it wasn't out of habit, it was out of convenience. Everything is done and back to eating real food.

Good for you, Amber. I think there's a difference for me from times I would slip in the past - the advice to not give up, everybody slips, get back on track somehow has helped me to not throw in the towel and start eating out of control again.

You are up to the challenges though, you know? You now know how to handle and adjust for the slips, cookouts, birthday party cakes, etc. so much better than when you began. You know this and we know this. We can't , don't want to , nor NEED to stop living life to the fullest and that includes splurging on celebratory occasions. You are right, you just gotta get back on track the next day. Like I told Norma, no harm no foul.
That's the beauty of learning to do it right, finally. It just gets easier to handle those times because the stress of beating ourselves up for it is removed from the equation.

Thanks Kim. I absolutely agree with you. Back down to 167 today. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Beautiful cooler day here so I'm taking advantage of it. Plan to get a good walk in and some swimming this afternoon. One scrambled egg and 1 slice whole wheat toast with black raspberry all fruit spread on it for breakfast, lunch will be spinach salad...need to figure out what's for dinner though...hmmm, maybe whole grain pasta and some homemade marinara.

Love, love, love summertime!

AMBER,

I love how you say "real food"!!!

Also, knowing that a slip is not ever going to be a habit.

Here's to a Happy Move!!!!

P.S. I still got to unpack from my trip, but I just needed to say HI to my buds here.

DEBBIE,

Yaaay 167!!!!! You know you are doing the healthy lifestyle.

I watched a weightloss show recently and the trainer said you got to change your thinking to make this work. No matter how many times I hear that it is like BIG news to me. He also said we got to make this the most important thing and this is like doing proper portion control. I mean I do it most times, but then I get my priorities mixed up. But you "guys" get me wacked back and on my track. LOL Boy, I needed that wack!

Thanks Barb. Glad you are back from your travels. Hope you had a wonderful time. You know, what you say is so true. We have to be reminded all the time. I was thinking the other day of how nice it will be to reach my goal and be able to eat a little more. HA! That got me back to reality...oh no, I shall NEVER make that mistake again and that thought has passed. Geez! Sometimes I wonder if I really ever GET this journey.

I got to thinking about how I'm slowly putting on the weight. I weigh daily, now, so I'm aware of the day-to-day pounds coming back. My "light bullb" moment was, that I did not weigh myself for years....but if I had I'm sure that my weight gain was slow but sure. So the point I realize, is not to get upset about the seemingly slow losses.

What you said about reaching your goal and getting to eat a bit more.......that will get the weight back on. It will slowly add up. I do that, too, when I slack in portion control, sneak in white carbs, snack after meals, don't do exercise, even slacking in hydration. All the little changes we made to lose, if we don't do them most of time will add the weight back on.

It has to be about changing our thinking. We are important. We need to do the work to make our life's the best they can be.

I recently watch the tv show "Push Girls". These gals are all in wheel chairs. They do amazing things with their lives. Really inspired me to make everyday count.

We have to be our own coaches. I read somewhere, we don't think twice about getting off the couch for a snack but it is real hard to get off that couch to exercise! LOL

Deb, everyday I try to find ways to keep me going on my journey, so you are not alone in the struggle.

Barb,
You have something there, I like what you say about getting up for a snack and not for exercises.
Maybe we need to say I will get up for exercises so I can have a snack and maybe after all that effort we mite take only half a snack. mmmmm thinking... thinking.... helene stop thinking and just do it LOL.

Barb, I just saw an advertisement for Push Girls, I really wish I had HBO just for that. I used to be in Home Health Care, before my accident and loved working with my clients, most of whom were wc bound. A lot of people just want to give up because its easier than Acceptance.
Those women are really beautiful, they take care of their looks, have careers, seem truly happy and content. They are amazing examples of how everyone, no matter their circumstances can and should strive for excellance in their lives.

It's true, Helene. Today, I knew , was gonna be tough. My hip was hurting enough for me to break down and take an Ultram. I slept in a bit and it was already 93 deg outside and I really and truly didn't want to do my mile walk this morning. But, I weighed in. (I'm at 199.4 but I'm not truly posting that till I am in One-derland for another day to be sure) . That boost for my mind helped me make the decision to get my butt moving. Sweated bad and bout passed out from the heat, but I did that stupid mile lol.
We just have to get up and do it. nothing more, nothing less.
