It has been 2 years since I first joined this community. I was a go getter and really ready to get rid of the extra lbs. I ended with 30 less than what I started at the time I found out I was pregnant. Hormones got all excited by the change my body went through in 10 wks or so. It made for a healthier and easier pregnancy. I ate EVERYTHING, but was somehow still cautious by my weight gain which did not start again until I was around 25 wks plus. I ended up gaining 25 lbs total during my pregnancy and lost 15 there after. So I was not too upset by the 10 lbs that I carried after my precious 2nd daughter arrived May 25th last year. I made the decision to BF and it was my first experience. I had no IDEA how much it would increase my food intake and since I have gained. We are almost ready to be done BF and I need to jump BACK on the wagon! I have looked over some of the things I did to first try to curve my cravings from eating EVERYTHING to small meals through out the day to what types of exercises I should use to step back into my journey. I would love to hear from everyone that is currently in the community. Any suggestions would be great as well. TY

I would start with some walking or some mild workout DVD's. Whatever you can find that works for you on your schedule.

Welcome (back) Crystal, As Amber says, get back into the healthy journey slowly. Walking is excellent, especially if you haven't been exercising at all. My suggestion would be to start now tracking your food again using WebMD or fitday.com so you can get a clearer picture of your nutrition and caloric intake. Since you were successful before, you know what to do, but this time make it a commitment for life. That has made all the difference for me AND my cheerleaders/shoulders to cry on friends on this board.

Hi crystal, I BF'd my sons. So I'm going to ask, are you going to quit "cold turkey" or are you using the meds to dry up your milk? I went cold turkey without the meds, and it hurt like holy .... and THAT is something you will have to take into consideration for whatever exercise you decide to try right now. Even with the meds, I'd not try to do any upper body weightlifting or even sissy pushups till your milk is completely dried up because your ducts aren't just in the nipples they spread throughout your breasts and up under your armpits. So just be careful there.
Walking especially with a new baby and a small child along will be your best bet. You get the added bonus of pushing either a baby stroller or shopping cart already loaded with extra weight to push just for being a mom and it burns more calories than just walking alone would. If you live near a mall the early morning "walkers" time when they have the mall open for the public but not the stores , is a perfect time to push a stroller at advanced cruising speed because there are no "cracks in the sidewalk" to worry about and there's air conditioning. If you don't have one near, take the kiddies to walmart or to a big box home improvement store, and let er rip. You don't want to have your babies in the heat too much and exercising when you've gained weight is hard enough without having to face sweating like a stuck pig too, lol. And anyone out there that says women don't sweat , "we perspire" is full of it ! I S W E A T !
Read back on us over the last couple of months, we've been tossing out a few decent recipes here and there on this blog that may help with mindless munching.
Cheers and re-welcome

Hi Crystal, I can't give you any advice about breastfeeding, as I never had children...
However, I would say that you are right to look at what worked for you last time you lost weight. It can work again if you follow those principles. The small meals throughout the day is a good idea, for example.
Luckily your daughter is probably keeping you very busy, and can maybe distract you from food!

Welcome back Cristal,

First congratulation on your 2 precious daughter, you must be a busy body.

Like the ladies say walking is great and pushing the stroller with a growing baby will be great since the weight that you will pushing will grow gradually.
It's really good that you are planning ahead of time.
At the beginning I wrote everything I put in my mouth in Fitday.com, quit an eye opener. Also I used a scale to weigh everything for portion notion you would be surprise.
Eat all natural foods not processed is the secret. If you like to cook it will be easier. If not start with a day a week and more and more.
It is great that you are starting know, your daughters will grow up in a family that eats healthy.

I thing you should do what is easier for you.

Welcome back Crystal .. you have gotten some good advice .. You already know what to do. Committing for life is your best bet to success. Get out and play with your girls. It is great exercise, go for walks..get a bicycle and go for bike rides the girls would love it. By doing this, you will also be giving your girls a helpful tool in life for healthy living also.

Welcome back,

From what I have heard BF burns alot of cals, so be careful after you stop BF to not gain.

Just go slow with your changes. This is a healthy way of life you can stay with. Use those two lovely daughter to inspire you. You are their role model. You will never regret being the healthiest mom you can be and getting your weight down to a healthy one.

We did not gain our weight overnight, so we cannot lose it overnight, either.

I agree with the others that say WALKING is good. Maybe during the nap time, do 15 mins. of weights and exercise bands.

Let us know how you are doing.

Barb
