Biking

Mostly I just stalk this board all the time and don't say anything, but I had a questions and wanted to know yall's thoughts, opinons, whatever

My husband finally was able to find a new job - hurrah! And we only have one car - so transportation is going to be kind of tricky. The only really okay solution that we could come up with was for me to get dropped off at work in the morning and then to bike home once I was done. My work is about 12 miles from where I live - and I haven't biked in a long time. However, 90% of it is downhill so I'm thinking that it shouldn't be too bad.

Any thoughts on how to make this bike ride easier for me (I have not done it yet - tomorrow is day 1). I will be taking a camelback backpack and filling it with water so that I can stay hydrated. Also, it will be a little later in the evening - 6 or 7 - so it will not be as hot.

Jeez, 12 miles when you aren't used to it?? OMG
I do have one suggestion. Pack an old towel and some duct tape in your bag. If your seat becomes uncomfortable, stop and wrap it with the towel and tape it into place. Especially at the "horn" of the seat. I'm afraid you're gonna get a sore bum if you don't take some precautions.
Also you may not bike quite as fast as you think you are going to, which will put you dangerously close to twilight. Please, pack a bright colored piece of clothing, or blaze orange hunting cap or something like it to make sure traffic can see you better.
Be careful and be safe, let us know how it went.

I would start biking as my exercise so I would get used to and it wouldn't be so hard on your body.

Didn't have to bike today as my husband found out that he got off early enough to pick me up. Will find out later today if I will need to bike at all...but I didn't even think about that stuff...thanks!
