Judy forgets to mention, how her nutrition quest also has stopped her macular(eye) degeneration in its tracks. So , yes, if you start out with some medical problems, obesity created or not, you may find your body healing itself over time as a happy "side effect" to eating more nutritionally.
Hi, Welcome! At 58 you probably are aware of all the "fad diets" out there, and maybe even have tried a few over the years, right? Some work some don't , but if they worked as well as they say they do, or taught you how to eat for the long term, you wouldn't be here, you know?
Join the club. Oh wait, you just did!!! HIIIIIII

Welcome to your Journey. Remember, it took years to put that weight on, don't expect it to just "fall off" in a few months and you will be one step ahead of the people who fall short of their goals by undermining themselves with unattainable time goals. Every body's body is different. You WILL hit plateaus and they WILL piss you off. That said, ONWARD!
The only thing I can really say is that whatever you like to eat will probably be ok if you 1. find better/lighter ways to fix them 2. eat way smaller portions 3. add exercise into the mix 4. drink lots and lots and LOTS of water LOL
We all have our "trigger" foods. One of us cannot eat breads, they are a very big downfall for them, with Judy it's icecream, with me it's brownies and donuts. If you have a trigger food that just cannot be tamed, save THAT one for very special occasions ONLY, just don't have it in the house if you cannot control the monster urges it creates.
Obviously, eat with nutrition in mind. If you like potatoes with a meal, try a baked or oven crisped sliced Sweet potatoe, better nutrition than white ones, whole wheat pasta and whole grain rice instead of white.... Raw and fresh vs precooked/frozen/preprepared and boxed.
EAT a RAINBOW foods with colors have better nutritional values... WHITE is NOT a color it is the absense of color and isn't found in the rainbow,,,,, nix the white flours, rices, pastas in other words.
I'm sure you will make it to your goal. We all will eventually. Some have already attained their goal and have been in maintenance for a long time and still are here to stay focused and to help others. The blogging and sharing and caring, does help. Come to celebrate and to VENT it helps.
