Thanks for all the great advise. I know that water is crucially important. I have lost a couple of lbs and am happy with that. Because I have 90-100 lbs to lose I know I have to take just one day at a time. I appreciated the advise about just gradually introducing more lean protein into my diet and cooking from scratch and eating mostly fruits, veggies and whole grains. Actually, when you get right down to it, what is better than fresh strawberries or peaches or the garden veggies that are coming along! Thanks to you all and I will keep reading your thoughts.

Sounds like you are on a great start. Remember you may not always succeed but when you fall realize your mistake(s) and get back up and do it again. I still don't always have it right but the made goal is changing the mindset and you won't have as many slips.

You are doing great! Just remember that even when you fall .. get back up and start again. If you read my blogs you will see just recently, I went on vacation and gained back weight after doing so well. We just have to remember that "Life Happens" try to stay the course and keep going. Your body gets accustomed to being fed a certain way and with natural foods. If you start stuffing unnatural things back into it .. it's like a teenager and will rebel. (LOL)

Here's an idea on how to know you ARE drinking all the water you need to. Get yourself water bottles and mark with a permanent marker, on the sides, the TIME of day you should drank the "measured" amount. That way, you can tell if you are keeping up with your water intake.

Good for you to look to fresh fruits and garden veggies. I have alot of work to do in keeping fruits and veggies cut or steamed and stored in the fridge....it is like a part time job. But we are worth it.

Keep posting!!!

Happy Saturday!

Amber, that was one of the best advice, ever, that a slip does not mean giving up.....and do not beat yourself up when it does happen. When I was in the yo-yo pattern, I would give up after a slip and do the self-beating thng and get depressed and eat more. Done with that self-defeating behavior.

That's when I was in the "diet" mentality.....all or nothing thinking. Making the switch to this is a journey and a healthy lifestyle makes all the difference.

Norma, I did that, too. Put on weight on vacation. But I know that will happen sometimes, too. We know what we have to do. I ate barbeque ribs that were too good to miss....hey, my choice, however I do not eat like that everyday. Hitting the veggies, salads, now that I am getting back on post-vacation track.

Tjhis board is great for keeping me in line, too!

I've always wondered where that mentality of the "circle of failure" ---diet, fall off wagon, binge to either prolong our suffering or to PUNISH ourselves for falling off, give up, diet..... on and on and on---comes from(?) Where is it in our makeup to set ourselves up to fail? What happened along the way to make us feel that we COULD NOT or WOULD NOT succeed? Especially in the ONE thing that we had almost complete control over. Our own bodies . Have you noticed that most of us are "of a certain age"? I wonder if we have to get to the point that we have finally accepted ourselves and our place here on earth before we can move on and into the mentality of trying to improve. Most of us are parents, which in and of itself proves our worth. We are mostly all more settled within our lives , even Norma although she has recently had to restart and rethink her professional life, she did already have a very solid foundation of knowledge for her busiiness to jump in from. Is it maturity? Is it resignation, that , if we don't change it ,nothing else will? Is it finally the acknowledgement that our lives are short and gonna be a whole lot shorter if we don't start taking care of ourselves?
What's reality here, is that we haven't all just started our journeys. We have literally been traveling in this direction all our lives, even through all of the diets and yo yos and failures, we have kept right on to this point where, we have all finally learned that , hey! This is a LONG friggen journey and every single path and turn that we have taken has given us a little bit more knowledge and a little bit more awareness of ourselves and our ability to cope with the good and bad outcomes of our decisions.
No matter what, we are all winners here. Like Laura, even if we decide not to continue on this path to lose weight, we have and will always have the knowledge that we have picked up here. Like Norma J's job. This path will give us a "jump off point" to begin again.
But always know, that this journey will go on for the rest of our lives and that every path we choose will undoubtedly take us to a better end.
