Hi kis39! Welcome!
We don't care if you only have 5 lbs to lose, THIS FORUM is the "IN" place to be.

We are an exceptionally active group, a lot of us log everyday, and we are a WINNING group. Look back on the "signatures" of posters here and you will notice that a bunch of us post our begin, current and goal weights. NOTICE too that there are a few that have lost close to or OVER 100 lbs successfully and are now/or have been in maintenance for a long time. We all pretty much believe it's not only an achieveable goal to lose weight healthfully and without "fad dieting" or surgeries, but to improve our health and get rid of some very troubling health issues , other than our obesity(macular degeneration, prediabetes, high blood pressure to name a few) and get off their unnecesary "necessary" medications too. Judy is a perfect example of this .She was going blind from macular degen and about 9 years ago decided a better diet may help, it did, and along the way she lost over 100 lbs , stopped her degeneration and has KEPT IT OFF for YEARS.
As for your not being able to afford a gym or more than an exercercise bike..... lol, I am the QUEEN of improvisation when it comes to FREE exercise. I'm fixed budget too and don't want to or need to spend boucoup bux on prospective "clothes hangers" like machines. lol
Shopping burns calories.... shopping with a Cart burns MORE calories.... shopping with a cart with 50lbs of dogfood or charcoal briquettes burns MORE and its free, and you have airconditioning. Yep, I do a Walmart shop when it's too hot outside. Swing by the pet or garden area pick up some poundage in a cart and "shop" the outside aisle, by the cash registers, thru veggies, past meats, deli, dairy, pets, tvs along the wall, auto, hardware...... over and over till you have an hour. Start out slow, as 4 times around will put sweat on the nape of your neck at a good pace. Then put your stuff back, cart back and go home or shop for real, whatever, you have so far burned off something like 300cal/hr and it was totally FREE.
Also, people really laugh about this till you get them thinking, go to any big box sporting goods store, they always have equipment set up "to try before you buy" , so TRY IT , all of it, for a total of 20 min or so, FREE EXERCISE equipment!

It helps them sell stuff if ppl see others trying it out and it gives you a workout. THEY CANNOT stop you from trying stuff, or from walking walmart, You are just being a conscientious consumer, trying stuff out before you buy and it gives you your daily exercise goal.
Otherwise , like you name implys, keep it simple. WALK. Walking is great for beginners and once you have found a good amount to walk, then you can start timing that distance , then cutting time from it as a goal. I started out barely making my mile in 45 min (bad accident, hip injuries), now I do that mile in 24 min and have actually found myself looking forward to turning around and doing it again. Yep, two miles in about the same time as my initial mile time. My goal is to be walking 3 miles comfortably. I don't care how long it takes if I can do it without killing myself , because I walk 6 days a week because it helps my arthritis.
Im glad you are joining us, read past posts here, you'll feel like family in no time.
