Quiche calories

Tomato05 posted:
I ended up in a chic French Patisserie type of place for lunch (definitely not my choice, just worked out that way), and had no idea what to order, because every item was just one big carbs cluster!

In the end the quiche looked about the most sensible - various types, like mushroom, spinach & feta, bacon & tomato, etc. I figured the quiche was better than the pastries, savoury-filled croissants & bagels, baguettes, etc.

I ordered the mushroom quiche, which came with a side garden salad, so at least I had the protein from the eggs, and the veg too. I only ate the filling (and salad) and left the crust, and had black tea with it.

I wonder how many calories there would be in a piece of mushroom quiche minus the crust, about 2 x 2 inches square?

Honestly, I doubt you had as many calories as you think you may have. When I make a regular round quiche, I use 8 lg whole eggs and a little milk. Then the veggies and whatever. The big bad addition, and your's may not have had it, is cheese. Some have it some don't so you'll have to adjust for that.
But a 9" round "pie" quiche will yield 8 large pieces and at that breakdown,is only 1 egg.
I wouldn't sweat it. Judy's right too, the protein was good for you and as choices go, you could'a done a whole lot worse in the patisserie.

Thanks for your feedback, Judy and Kim. Yes, the quiche was maybe not low-fat (cheese, milk, eggs), but definitely lower carb than the other flour-based items. (It definitely had cheese in it). I don't normally choose quiche, because of its high fat content - some people even use cream and not only milk, but it was nutritionally OK otherwise.
And it was quite tasty too.

Tomato, that quiche definitely sounded like the better choice at a French restaurant. You really could have done alot worse! I can only imagine the temptation.

Smart gal too, to leave the crust behind. I must remember your strategy when eating out. Make the best protein choice.

I am starting to look at plates of food in terms of carb %. This is something new for me. Recently eating out w/dh, I looked at his plate, burger w/bun and fries. When I looked at that plate in terms of white carbs, the only protein was the small burger.

We can make better choices when eating out. Good work!
