    Hello everyone. I've been neglecting this community recently and my own health lately - again. I've just been overwhelmed with some things in my life, and I fell into old, destructive patterns - again. Trying to get back up, shake the dust off my bum, and get real - again. I know I have to take baby steps - seriously - or it just overwhelms me. It's just that so many things are tied together that it's hard to start with just a couple of changes.

    I really DO want a better existence. I hate how I feel and hurt with every little thing. I don't want to continue down this awful path! I can't believe it's already MARCH. Aaack. Okay, so, basically I have wasted 2 more months of my life making things worse.

    So, here's to being realistic, taking responsibility, putting on my big-girl pants and being willing to do whatever it takes to become healthier. I need to figure out healthier coping mechanisms, stress relief, etc., other than food.

    Thanks for listening and being such great community. I hope I can be a positive influence sooner than later.

    Hi Misty, I was wondering how you've been. Glad you came back and checked in. Life is tough. Just focus on one positive change for this first week in March and celebrate when you succeed. I tend to overwhelm myself instead of being patient with myself. That causes me to be uselessly self-critical (which has always been an issue for me). Now, I celebrate every little positive thing I do during each day. One positive change, however small it is, is not a BABY step, it is a HUGE step forward.

    Misty, Seems to be a theme on this board today, "the not giving up" and feeling overwhelmed.You came to the right place. I had to battle my snacking destructive ways and it was tough. I also had a tiff with DH and that could have caused comfort/emotional/you name it-out-of-control eating, binging-fest. I stayed in control eating wise but I said some things to DH that got a bit out of control, but it did clear my head about things that were bothering me. BTW, "we" are fine this A.M.

    I'm glad you are here, like Debbie says we were thinking about you.

    What you say about coming up with healthier things than food is what all of us have to do. There comes a point in time that food just makes us feel worse, in our bodies and our minds.

    Let go of the past. Shake it off. Looking back, just keeps us stuck. I used to do that too. Today is a NEW day!

    Debbie, the thing, too, even when we get at a goal weight, LIFE does not stay or become Disneyland. We still have our "sucky" days or stuff to figure out and that's when the old habits kick in or get tempting.

    Like Misty says, we got to come up with new ways to deal with stress. Remember the Dr. Phil question: "Is THAT working for you?" If not then we need to make a change.

    as I recall I had to start over a few times before getting healthy took . Just keep doing healthier things add a new healthy behavior and keep it then add another and so on eventually you will have a healthy life that you can live with forever . and be aware that old habits never really go away the are sleeping in the back of our minds we just try not to wake them up
    been there and when they do wake get right back to putting them to sleep ...

    Try to keep in mind that it's a Process, NOT Punishment.
    So , like the others are suggesting. Start small.
    If you still munch or eat after 7-8pm.... just stop doing that. Just that one thing... overcome it for a week or so, then focus on how you can maybe change your breakfast to healthier choices. Try a few different recipes for just THAT meal. Do that for a week or so. Once you feel comfortable, move on to lunch or maybe just changing your two snacks a bit..... switch things up a bit, try new recipes, or make old ones healthier..... focus on the FOOD first, not the OTHER stuff that you perceive are tied together in the journey. Just food first, then later as you get lighter and more confident, add some exercise like walking.... walk a mile. In a couple of weeks, start timing that mile... start walking it a bit faster every couple of weeks until you hit a good pace that doesn't "kill" you.... then later on, do it twice a day.... see??? small steps. focus on one thing at a time.... don't let yourself get overwhelmed. Don't try to multitask your journey until you have mastered the basics as individual components.

    Will try. Thanks everyone. Not feeling well this evening, so going to try to get some extra rest. Vertigo hits me now and then and this is the now, I guess. Wish I could find a doctor I actually connected with or felt he/she was competent. A bit frustrating, and I need some things taken care of. Don't like a doctor who just wants to prescribe a pill for whatever without exploring more and looking at overall picture, etc.

    Hi Misty! Welcome to the group. Thanks for joining us. You'll find lots of good advice from everyone here! Some of the members have lost many pounds and kept it off. Baby steps can get you there!

    Baby steps, to a healthy lifestyle change. When you change your thoughts you will then change your weight. Getting healthy is about progress, not perfection.

    Thank you, Laura. Right now I'm just totally overwhelmed with life and bills. I'm just so tired of trying to figure it out and make it work. I'm just tired of everything.
