ugh. I didn't end up going for a walk after all yesterday. After I spoke to the cops and filed a report, I cleaned up most of the broken glass it was too dark but I was out there for a while standing and bending and stuff.

I'll make sure that I get something done today!!

Hi Helene and Kali.

Kali- I hope your day is going better today.

Today's plan for exercise is my Leslie Sansone walking DVD- 2 mi. It takes about 30 minutes. Instead of the exercise bands they use on the video, I will be doing the upper body movements w 5lb weights.
Rachael...under construction.

I might skip it today. I might not. I'm a little achy everywhere because these old bones haven't moved in a while. I'll see how I feel late this afternoon. Morning exercise is out of the question for this gal!

Swimming last night was terrific... definitely recommend it. We did 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of core work. It was pretty intense, actually. My arms and abs are sore!

Today, I'll be starting agility training with my puppy. For exercise logging purposes, this can be equated with roughly 15 minutes of jogging, 35 minutes of aerobics. My competition dogs are little so it requires a lot of bending and squatting and such. I'm thinking about skipping out on work early to go for a short swim before class tonight. We shall see. As always, I will do my 15 minutes of yoga, but I will also add 50 crunches and 3 sets of stairs at lunchtime.

My exercise today will be normal walking around at work already made 2 trips down the block and back. And the doc informed me that sitting on the exercise ball is exercise, even though it is killing my knees right now I'm going to force myself to sit there for 30 minutes. Docs are switching medications around on me again and one is really making me tired and sick to stomach. I'm still trying and not giving up on the exercising. While walking on tredmill last Wednesday I reinjuried my right knee again so now I have to find a new orthopedic specialist UGG. HUGGS everyone I hope everyone has a great day Jean

Hi Jean,

Be careful with the ball. It can be very, very bad for your knees if it isn't the correct size (or slightly larger). I use a ball quite regularly, but my physical therapist recommended using it for 10 minute sessions until I was more accustomed to it. She also stressed making sure that the size was correct.

Good luck with the specialist... I have bad knees and know how much they can really affect every aspect of your day.

I've never tried sitting on a ball. What is the safest size to get when you have bad knees? How big do you have to get? It sounds like something I could do for exercise.

thelovelyjd replied to mog1026's response:
You want to make sure that when sitting on the ball your knees are not bending too far... same concept as when doing squats. Knees should always be behind/in line with the ankles. The balls have height guidelines, but I always go a size up. My ball is a 75cm (I'm 5'10) and it just about right and allows my knees to bend at/close to a 90 degree angle with my thighs parallel to the ground.

I love my ball. Because your body has to work to correct for the instability of the ball you're constantly working. It isn't going to burn the equivalent of a 30 minute run, but it is excellent if you're mobility challenged or mostly sedentary. It is a small change that can add up over time.

They have a few specific ball exercises targeted at hip and knee problems.

Yay Jean You joined the challenge.
You do what you can and follow your professional guide.

I use a ball every day I love it. I have a medium size one like Sheri says you leg has to be at a 90 degree to be confee. Instead of a chair it helps strengthen the core muscles. I also use it to stretch the glut I'm not strong enough and too fat to hold my leg up while the other one is cross over so I Lay down on the ground put my leg on the ball and other one over my knee. This way it is not so heavy.
