    Probiotics Warning
    EFuseler posted:
Regardless of whether you purchase your b probiotics from a local retailer or from an on-line source be sure that they are maintained at a temperature cool enough to not impugn the integrity of the bacteria. My last order was left in my mailbox for several hours in 100+ degree temperature. The manufacturer has confirmed that the bacteria have been compromised. So if you buy them locally, get them home or be prepared to keep them cool if you are going to need to leave them in a hot car. If you purchase them from an on-line source, ask the seller how they ship to maintain the required temperature. MERF

I know when I got my Humria today they had 4 big ice pack things in it. It was still cold when I got home. Don't know how long it was out on the porch before I go home. I try to remeber and check to make sure it is cold when I take the shots out to put in the fridge. Thanks for the reminder...

Interesting to note ... my on-line source has stopped offering the Floral-Q that I take and has refunded the money for my last order since I questioned this. Huh.

I will ask the online companies and local retailers about maintaining temperature. But I don't think the retailers will know how the transporters handled it....It's a difficult situation, but I'm glad you brought it to our attention. I will begin the inquiring now....

When I ordered that really expensive powder probiotic (VSL) it was in a package with ice in a special bag. And then it was put in an UPS box so it has little to do with the shipping company if the company that sells it packages it properly.

I buy my probiotics from Kirkman Labs. During the summer, they only permit the quicker shipping options and delay shipping until Monday or Tuesday to make sure that they'll arrive during the week. They pack them in an insulated box inside of the regular box plus they include ice packs inside of the insulated box. During the winter I can choose slower shipping methods. I've never had any problems with my probiotics arriving warm. They also use a higher CFU than stated on the package just to allow for a bit of die-off. They've tested their products after being in shipping conditions to ensure that what arrives at people's homes is still above the stated CFU. I'm a huge fan of Kirkman labs (I order other supplements from them as well).
