I have been diagnosed with gerd over 3 years ago and had and EGD done and a EMS or esophagal motility study to check the strength of esphogual muscles and it came back normal. I have tried so mamy different drugs and now I am on Reglan 4x a day- before the normal 3 meals a day and before bed as well xanax but nothing is particulary helping. should I seek a second opinion?

Wiccacelt, have you also made all of the dietary and lifestyle changes that are sometimes necessary to try to bring the GERD under control? Many people find that meds alone just don't cut it. And you may have to watch out for the xanax. It can have a 'relaxing' effect on the lower esophageal sphincter and up your reflux episodes. If your GI doc gave you the xanax, find another GI doc that knows what they're doing. Xanax and several other meds should never be given to someone with GERD.

I am on a low fat diet and have done everything I can to reduce the synptoms but I still have severe pain and naseau. I have a realtively big hiatal hernia but doc does not seem to concerned with it. I think surgery is the next step.

I just recently had the Bravo test done and found out the I have GERD. He prescribed me the Reglan and after reading the side affects, I'm scared to death to take it! Did you experience any bad side affects from it? I'm also on a very low dose of xanax xr....1mg once a day and I'm also taking 20mg of aciphex. I have heart palpitations really bad at times, specially after i eat too much. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me on that medication. :)
