No Annatto: No IBS

It took over 40 years to figure out what was causing my IBS. It eluded me. It was hard to pinpoint anything since the episode could be in 20 minutes or in 20 hours.

The official diagnosis came in 2005 after a colonoscopy.

In 2006, on a 37 day trip to Europe, I was normal after four days. I noticed they use cream and there wasn't any non-dairy creamer at the hotel. I continued to be normal. On one plane, they only served non-dairy. The symptoms returned. When I returned to the States, I stayed off Coffee-mate for one month. I had some Coffee-mate and the diarrhea, bloating and intestinal pain returned. Now, I am off Coffee-mate forever. Three weeks later, after being normal, I had an "episode". I looked at the label on the vanilla ice cream and what they had in common was "annatto".

Since 2006 I am symptom-free as long as I don't digest any food with annatto. I have a comprehensive list of foods with annatto. I will send it to you if you send me your email.

A major Ivy League University is publishing my link of annatto to IBS as a possibility of the cause of IBS. It will be published in their article this fall. They believe I might have come upon something significant.

If you omit annatto from your diet for just three or four days, you will have an immediate response, for the positive if annatto is your problem.

Quad1111 -

Have you had a lot of feed back since your list was published? I'm going to try to stay away from annatto, and i will report back. I can say just reading the list makes my stomach hurt! I use Coffee-matte every day and i had done a search this a.m. on digesting coffee-matte that led me to this thread. Thank you for taking time to post your message.
