Always bloated

Hi! I was wondering if someone could clue me in on what my issue is. All my life I have been unable to burp normally. Because of this, when i drink something carbonated, my stomach fills up like a balloon and is very large and uncomfortable. I have delt with this. However, just the last few months, it seems like every time I eat, my stomach becomes abnormally enlarged, puffed out and tight, full of gas. I will take Gas-X but lately it just doesn't help. All day, I walk around feeling huge and uncomfortable, unable to get any relief. My stomach hurts to even put pressure on it. At night, it seems it all comes out as flatulence, then it starts all over again the next day. I have a very healthy diet, my stool is normal and regular, the only thing I suffer from is this horrible gas. What is going on??

Gas makes me think food intolerance. When your body can't digest a food properly then it sits there and the bacteria inside you feasts on it and you have gas.

I can suggest two things. Start writing a food diary where you write down everything you eat/drink/consume (even a stick of gum should be written down), any symptoms you and how you feel overall. That'll help you pin down trigger foods more than anything else, as some things trigger a reaction right away and other things have a delay of hours or even days.

The other thing is to do the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, all plain. After eliminating all other foods you should see an improvement (some people turn out to have gluten problems and so have to drop toast as well). Then you really slowly add in foods, one at a time, to see which you react to.

I'm guessing you'll want to start with the food diary as it'll be easier. If you're comfortable with it, you could post what you eat in a day on here and I'm sure someone will reply with ideas on what you could be reacting to.

Thank you very much! I think that is a great idea. It's funny because I'm a 30 year old female and I've never been intolerant to any foods that I knew of. I was reading that you can develop an intolerance to lactose, for example, later in life. I wonder if that is something I should look into. The last time this bloating happened, I had just eaten a salad. So maybe it has something to do with that... though I've eaten salads numerous times in the past and I don't feel awful every single time afterwards, only a few times. So yes, I should write down everything in the salad or whatever and get to the bottom of it. thanks for your advice!
