My mother is battling Crohns. She is 81 years old. It was brought up that chemo treatments may boost her immune system due to multiple flair-ups. Does chemo not decrease immune system strength?

Plenty of people with Crohn's are given a low dose of an immune suppressant as their bodies immune system has gone into overdrive and is attacking itself instead of a foreign invader. Chemo also lowers the immune system for the same basic reason - although the doses given for cancer are much higher than the kind of immune suppression that Crohn's people get.

I hope that helps.
