Help! Is this IBS?

I have been having problems with abdominal pains for the last 3-4 years and it seems to be getting worse. I have horrible cramps, constipation most of the time or diarrhea, a sharp pain in my low left side of my abdomen. It comes on all of a sudden whether I am running, or sitting down at my desk at work. I will get chills/sweats and feel sick to my stomach and feel as if I need to throw up and or use the bathroom. My bowel movements are very painful and strained, sometimes feel as if my intestines are ripping apart. I have horrible lower back pain (mostly my right side) and also have hip joint pain (they lock up).
I've been to a GI a couple years ago who just said I have IBS.
I have changed my diet since then, and have been exercising. I lost about 50 lbs, and still have problems.
Not sure where I should go to be taken seriously and get some help. There are days where it is so painful, I can't walk. It is interfering with my job and life. Any help & advice would be appreciated.

Hi Anon,

Thanks for bringing your concerns to WebMD. I am sorry you have been struggling with these symptoms for so long.

You deserve to feel good! I hope you will consider a second opinion. Start with your family doctor and ask for a referral to another GI. Be persistent, you should not be given a diagnosis and left on your own.

Please see our Irritable Bowel Syndrome Health Center , for information on symptoms, treatment and much more.
