Hello and good afternoon. After posting on another website's health forums and being labelled a "hypochondriac" by another poster intimidating me from posting, i decided to join this website instead. It got to the point where i no longer felt comfortable posting anything due to nasty, inflammatory responses.
I will go into detail only in that it will illustrate the problem. I don't mean to ramble on. There will be quite a few details but it's not me to post them for no reason. And don't worry, I go to medical follow ups regularly so i don't rely just on these boards.
Everything was fine until late 2003 around the holidays when I had a mild illness with a low grade fever with mild to moderate nausea, body ache, fatigue, poor appetite. It was basically gone within 12-18 hours. No big deal. However, i recalled that over the months in 2004 being unusually fatigued and around May I became irritable, and was constantly having bowel movements(BM's) up to as much as 8 per day. Much of the time they were accompanied by headaches, but the BM's themselves varied from normal to unformed or mushy ( actual diarhhea was rare).
The IBS continued and in Dec 2004 I developed testicular pain for which i was put on antibiotics for an inflamed prostate. A colonoscopy done showed a very healthy colon but a little diverticulosis. In March 2005 the varicose veins in my right leg swelled up and became infected so i had to go to the hospital for a few days on an IV. In April the testicular pain returned but eventually went away around the summer. Meanwhile the IBS continued into 2006 and then subsided around 2007.
Meanwhile, in 2007 I became prediabetic and have been taking metformin. I have a little bit of protein in my urine and take micardis/hct, lasix(for my blood pressure) and a potassium supplement
since 2007 I've been basically OK tho i find it impossible to lose weight. also both parents had passed away within the past 3 years which had increased my stress and affected my sugar somewhat(I take 850 mg metformin 3 times per day)
anyway, after a pleasant but stressful "vacation" where i moved heavy furniture and cleaned out closets in my parents house, upon my return home i developed a low grade fever with no other symptoms other than a sinus like headache with nothing else. my doctor looked in my nose and claimed there was a lot of congestion (which i didn't feel at all) so she put me on the zithromax pack. the illness went away in about 3 days
about a week after the zithro pack was finished my IBS symptoms came back along with the headaches. mild nausea was also part of it tho my appetite still has been decent in spite of it. today i am going on my 6th time in the bathroom, and so far all the BM's have been decently formed and have a healthy color.
this has the urgency of diarhhea but the end result is just either normal, sometimes loose or unformed BM's but rarely any diarhhea at all.
if i had to guess i might think that the recent zithromax pack had done it since antibiotics can remove friendly bacteria from the colon, and i do have a long history of being on lots of antibiotics in the past. yeast overgrowth?
i forgot to tell you i also have elevated liver enzymes(fatty liver disease) and am supposed to have a liver biopsy. my GI doctor doesn't think it's anything serious other than having metabolic syndrome(I don't drink and don't have any hepatitis and don't do hi risk activities)
am i losing electrolytes by going to the bathroom so much? even if the BM's are not watery, can i still lose electrolytes by going so much?
is it possible that i just need to be drinking more water since i am taking 2 diuretics? maybe that is the problem? can liver issues cause this?
well thanks for reading
