Newly diagnosed with IBS

After having been living with celiac for a year and a half! (I was misdiagnosed, and found this out going to the Mayo celiac center last week!).

So, I'm now on Bentyl (just started today) and OFF caffeine. I know there are other changes I can make, but I want to take it slow and see what works.

Any words of wisdom, etc., for someone newly diagnosed? I'm frustrated with this diagnosis, since it seems there's no easy path to relief...

Thanks!
K.

Welcome to our world. I've been diagnosed for about a year now and am still learning. Couple of things that help me...Activia or greek yougurt everyday, 4 fiber capsules every day (2 AM 2 PM), avoid greasy food, keep my milk intake to small amounts and stress is a HUGE trigger for me. I don't have things under complete control yet but life is liveable if I think ahead. Everyone has different triggers, it's a matter of experimentation. Good luck.

After years of restricting my travel or not eating because I need to go out I was given Librax. This has changed my life. I I am as normal as anyone and can shop, travel and live a normal life.
I had uncontrollable D and would often not make it to the bathroom. I took Robinol Forte for years with mixed results. Still had constant anxiety about if I could find a bathroom in time.
Librax has changed my life.

I've had IBS-D since childhood, ran in my dad's family, but it has been intermittent - I've lived many years without any symptoms & ate a seriously junk diet with daily alcohol too. In 2009 I got tired of being 50 pounds overweight and basically starved myself thin the next few months. Oops - IBS returned and so did Gallstones. Had my gallbladder out in Dec 2010 and suffered thru constant diarrhea - I was eating too much fat. In Sept 2011 I found helpforibs.com and have been following the recommended bland, starchy diet, taking Bentyl and soluble fiber daily. I am stable! I practice deep breathing, use hypnotherapy to relax myself & reduce my belief that this curse must be my daily companion. You can free yourself from this, refuse to be scared or despondent - you can beat this! Good Luck!
