Hi, I also have IBS and lactose intolerance. I think the best probiotics so far on the markets have been Enzymatic's Probiotic Pearls( the regular one or the elite one).
I believe not everyone can take all brands of probiotics. The reason may be some products could be contaminated during manufactured. For myself, the Pearls seems to be good for a beginner who has sentitive stomach.
They caused me little side effects, just the first 2 days unlike the other brands(start with just 1 pearl during the first month). When you feel healthier, maybe after 3 months, you can try other brands on the market which contain more strains than these Pearls. If they are not working, then switch back to the Pearls.
For the Acidohillus Pearl (the regular one) results to me after
7 months by taking this 30 mins after taking a colostrum (to help probiotics clinging to gut wall);
Pros: Clean products,very few side effects, better skins, help relief of abdominal cramping using after the symptom happens, , decrease abd pain, feel like it has become my new flora, good probiotics for everyone to start with
Cons: doesnt help much with lactose intolerance or IBS,
doesnt prevent stomach infection from contaminated food,
contain little amount of milk, palm oil which are not good for IBS persons (so, i crush them and take just probiotics inside, not the coating which contains some ingredients difficult to digest)
You better try the Elite Pearls which have four strains. Most articles say L. Plantarum can help pretty much in IBS. I began to take this Elite, although it causes more side effects than the regular one (like sour stomach and a lot of gas so i take esomeplazole 30 mins prior to the Elite.), but i feel it can relieve IBS symptoms quite well after 3-4 days of die-off reactions. Hope this infomation be useful to you.
Finally, I also suggest another supplement called "Transfer factor". Most people say it works to increase immune factor that may be found to be diminished in non-breastfed people and can easily get IBS due to low immune.
