Hyoscyamine Sulfate, how long does it take to work?

I have suffered from IBS my entire life. I only recently realized it had a name and could be treated My Dr. prescribed Hyoscyamine Sulfate and told me it worked for most patients, and if it did not, he could try something else.
My question is, how long should it take before I notice an improvement? I forgot to ask my Dr. Will it help in days, weeks, hours? Should I take the medication for a few months, or should I call on Monday if there is no improvement? Monday would be 6 days.
thanx, h
