I'm a 21-year-old female who has been struggling with many health problems for the last 5 months or so. I've been to several doctors and none of them can figure it out. Because I don't really look that sick and I'm so young, I get "anxiety" as a diagnosis and they send me on my way. However, anxiety medications have never helped my physical symptoms.
It pretty much started in April when I had a virus or something... a few weeks before it happened I would get these weird dizzy/lightheaded spells and I would just feel "off." Then for a week I had a slight fever, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, and painful body aches (my ribs and the middle of my back felt extremely sore, and I was even getting some pain/numbness in my arms). I felt better after a week but then a couple weeks later I started getting the weird dizzy spells again, then I came down with what I thought was a stomach virus. I don't think I ever really had diarrhea, just nausea, vomiting, and no appetite.
Ever since then I've had problems off and on, and I haven't felt like myself. For a while I would wake up and vomit every morning, then it would happen for a few days and then stop happening for a few days, then it became a rare thing. I still feel nauseous when I wake up most of the time but not usually as bad. However, I still can't eat like I used to, and food never sounds good at all. This is a huge change because I used to be able to eat anything at any time. I also stay pretty lightheaded and tired most of the time. The weird thing is, even though I have no appetite, I feel like I need to eat a lot. This makes me wonder if I have some kind of parasites. The doctors don't believe I'm that sick because I gained back the weight I lost, but I still feel terrible and have to force myself to eat.
Another thing I have is severe gas and bloating. I have uncontrollable belching a lot of the time, and sometimes I will belch until I gag or even vomit. I've had an ultrasound of my gallbladder and pretty much everything in my abdomen besides my intestines and stomach (liver, kidneys, pancreas, etc).
Some other things going on are that I get short of breath every now and then (like I can't get enough air), my veins are much more noticeable than they used to be, and I've lost some hair. With the veins, I don't know if my skin is thinner or if my blood vessels are inflamed or something... but for example, I have a purple vein under my right eye that was never there before. I also have these red spots that look like pinpricks on my skin but my platelet count and everything like that is normal. I also have a very slight numbness/weakness in the left side of my body every now and then.
Some days I feel pretty good (but never back to the way I was), and other days I can't do anything because I feel so bad. I know it doesn't sound like I'm that sick but I really do feel awful and it's such a big difference from the way I used to feel. It's hard for me to even go to the grocery store or anything.
I've had CBC, CBC with differential, lyme disease test, h pylori test, tests for autoimmune disease, metabolic panel, and more. Everything has been normal but I do test positive for the Epstein Barr virus and I believe I could have had mono in April. I had blood work at the beginning of June and my bilirubin was very slightly elevated (1.4) and it's not anymore.
I feel like it's not one organ/system malfunctioning but like I'm sick all over. That's why I feel like it could either be a parasitic infection or something toxic that I'm exposed to. I moved into a new apartment in December and started feeling bad in the spring when I turned on the air conditioner, and then discovered the A/C was full of black mold. However, I stayed at my dad's for a couple months and didn't get better. I felt better for a while but the symptoms came back, and they're worse now than they've been in a while.
