Gallbladder symptoms with normal ultrasound and labs

Hello out there... I am a 32yo f and have been dealing with upper rt and mid abdominal pain for a while now. The pain comes and goes but is most noticable right after I eat. The back pain feels like I have pneumonia and it is almost constant. My appetite has diminished and I sometimes get a metallic taste in my mouth. I belch a lot more than usual and my tummy feels bloated a lot. I sometimes get a pain in my right shoulder as well and it is felt most in the shoulder blade area. I put off the pains for a while and my husband made me go to my PCP to look into it. He immediately suspected gallstones and told me that my gallbladder might have to be removed and to prepare for it. In the meantime he ordered blood work and an urgent ultrasound. Each day the symptoms have become worse. When my doctor told me that my labs and ultrasound were normal, I was very suprised! Im glad they didnt find anything but im upset that they didnt find out what is going on with me! They referred me to a gastroenterologist and said that even though my tests came back normal, that they still think its my gallbladder. The symptoms grew and I ended up in the ER last night. Well once again they said gallbladder and got me in for an ultrasound after doing bloodwork. I was hopeful that since it was the hospital, they would look into it in more depth and finally give me some answers. Yeah, I was wrong about that. Once again they labs and ultrasound came back normal so they decided that I wasnt dying so I can wait until I see my doctor and off they sent me without any answers...just more questions. Am I crazy? Is this all in my head? I told my husband last night that I give up... I never planned to go to the doctor to begin with and this is why! What has happened to our healthcare system? Why do some hospitals dig until they have an answere and most dont? I guess I could have understood better had they given me a different test to look into other possibilities. Is there anyone else out there that is dealing with the same issues? Or better yet, has anyone else had this before and what did they find out in the end? Its pretty sad when I get more answers online than I do from the actual drs!

Did they do a HIDDA scan? That can show things ultrasound cannot. What about an MRCP? Instead of an invasive endoscope-type procedure, it is done via MRI and looks at the gallbladder, common bile duct, etc. From others who have had what you do, maybe your gallbladder is inflamed without stones or sludge is passing through - that is not seen on the US or any other type of scan.

In this current medicine era, hospitals will keep you under observation status or full admission. You're right - if you are not dying they may not keep you. Another thing to keep in mind - just because some docs can't see something - doesn't mean they are right. Years ago, a doc told me that if docs can't find answers they can tend to blame it on the patient.

Double check with your insurance, too. There are probably certain things they may not cover, such as a longer hospital stay without anything major going on.

Good luck!

Well I can understand. For 2 years I suffer terrible pain.
Have good Health Insurance than went to see different specialists. All test are normal.
ER dig on gallbladder or kidney and they are OK witch I know already. One nice Doc. was very honest "we have many ppl coming with the same symptoms I wish we have answer but we don`t know".
He send me home with Pantoprazole and Lortab of course I will never touch Lortab-Hydrocodone because that is painkiller and that only mask the problem.
I found Doc.for Hiatal hernia He found I have it.He did surgery-I felt good for 2 weeks after surgery.Than started all over again the same problem. No one will answer.I was basicaly free of sever pain for 2 weeks that is all.I will not recomand that surgery.I have more complication than benefits.I give up on Docs. and just wait for an autopsy.that seems to be only answer.
No one can say why I have sever constipation now for 1 year, pain, gas, rumbling in my stomach 24/7, pain in abdomen and have to wear Corset or some wide belt to hold my abdomen in /less pain that way/.
