Problem with my Brother

Debdulal posted:
Hi,I am having a big problem with my elder brother who is sadly been suffering from Epilepsy for more than 20 years now.At first he took his medicines regularly and his nature was also very gentle as it was originally but after so many years I guess his brain is taking damage because of the strong medicines he takes(Epsolin300mg & Frezium100mg ) and the side effects came into existence. His nature drastically changed in the last few years which has turned from gentle to abusive to violent. He doesn't listen to anybody, neither me nor my parents, doesn't follow his usual diet, doesn't take medicines at prescribed time and gets very angry if asked to do what is necessary to stay seizure free. Some times he doesn't take his medicines at all and thus the seizure comes back again.Because of these reasons he had to under go a critical Waist bone operation which he broke when he fell from standing position during a seizure and no body was there to catch him. After expensive transplant operation he is walking again but his old habits have not changed at all.So We all are afraid that he might fall again from standing position and break the transplant equipment fitted in his waist.I dont know what to do or how to make him follow the instruction to be seizure free.We all are very upset and kind off helpless. So if anybody thinks they can help me then please let me know. Thanks in advance and god bless.

Hello Deb,

I'm not sure about what we can do to help your brother. He Needs Professional Help! Not just his Neuro, but a psychiatrist/counselor, too. Some one in the family needs to go w/ him on his next appt! He Needs to see the Neuro, First, to determine if there may be other underlying causes to his 'mood swings'. I think you should call his Doc & ask the nurse to schedule an appt for him. ASAP! But, someone in the family who has witnessed All these changes should go w/ him. If his DR Has been Informed & done Nothing, Please, seek another Opinion!

God Bless & Hugs! I do hope you will update us if/when things get better.

P.S. I would, also, chek for a Live Support Group in your area. epilepsyfoundation.org has a listing of All Groups. You would be welcome. And they mite be able to assist, also.

Love Candi

Thanx for your reply and concern.I agree that my brother needs professional help.We tried almost all the hospitals around INDIA to have a viable solution but things are getting complicated day by day.The medicines he is taking is actually stopping the seizure but its the issue of making him take his medicines on time. Now a days he is angry all the time(I think its the side effects) and refuses to take his medicines and even food.He eats very less.Hiss weight has come down from 70Kg to 52Kg.I believe its a psychiatric problem now along with Neuro but there aren't any really good Psychiatric doctors around here.I personally think that a really good Psychiatric doctor can help him a lot but I dont know anyone of that caliber. If you can help me finding a good psychiatric doctor then it will be the ultimate help that I can get.All the referred doctors until now are not up to the mark and its not helping his cause in any way.Thats why I am really trying my heart out to find the correct one.But its ok if you cant help me there.Thanx anyways.
