Hi,

the surgery is creeping closer as it will be on next Friday not this one.

Next Tuesday I have to have an EKG, some blood work, then beat it back to my surgeon's office for my history and physical. You know the kind of thing where he listens to my heart and does the vitals.

he said becuase my jaw is such a mess it will be closer to 3 hrs to do rather than avg of 2 hrs.

THey will be keepping me for 23 hrs than kicking me out. Still considered out patient surgery.

He will be taking the pin out so the jaw can fall completely apart and he can start from sqare one. HE will be smoothing all teh bones out , scraping out all teh arthristis, taking the calsified disk out, dpoing a fat graft from my abdoman and using to replace the crevioces and where the joint was a mess.

Staple the insicion on my abdoman , stitch up the ear from where he is going to cutfrom the top to the bottom to expose the joint and keep me to monitor me to make sure i do alright and also so I do not have any sz activity while in there due to the stress on my body.

Hopefully the stress from thsi will cut back on some of my szs and I will be in less pain.

This will be the second surgery for the TMJ. last one was on Dec 3 of 01. I have 4 root canals from teh TMJ.

I will have to leave hawii to come back to the mainland to have this done. I will have to be away from home to have this done and will be there for a week at least then go back to Hi.

I will hav eto have PT on it and will be given some exerczws tp take back with me. Then in a month will go back again to have it looked and see how it is coming along.

no the VNS will NOT be turned off. They will use a VNS magnet to stop the cycling so they can get the ET tube down my throat.

I had major jaw surgery to rebuild my jaw for severe sleep apnea. The surgeon required that there be a neurologist in the OR throughout the surgery. There was and eveything went well. You mighy want to ask they have a Neurologist/
epiletologist as well.

not sure who to ask with this one. but they are going to use gases that have anti-sz properties to it along with me taking my meds in the morning before I leave and will have an EEG machine in there and will be hooked up to that with a few electrodes to watch it for sz activityand I have a VNS as well. I see pre-admit this coming Tuesday and will ask then.

thanks for you suggestion.
