I was at one time on Keppra. Had a really bad experience with this med. At first it was ok I guess. slept a lot at first. The after about a week on it is when things got really bad. it not like it controlled my seizures at all because it didn't. Then it got to the point of me getting agitated like fliping a light switch.at this time sever insomnia started. I got to the point where my moods became very unstable & unpredictable. I would be happy one min. enraged the next & then in tears the next min. after that. I went to the neuro. office that day & told them how this med. made me.I also told them I hadn't slept in several days. They then changed me to My current med. Tegratol XR. That was about 4 years ago. This was my experience. What I would like to know have you experienced the same with this med or any other med. for that matter?

My daughter can relate! I Think ?? she was on it as an add on for TegrestolXR, too. Were you taking your B6 or B Complex at the time? Did you know these Side effects, Usually, diminish &/or go away w/in 4-6 weeks. Depending on your Diet???

I can Relate! But, my poison is Phenobarbital. And Researchers only discovered the 'mood swing' effect a few yrs ago. My Poor Son bore the brunt of of Tirades. I never realized it was my meds. I had been on them for almost 20 yrs when this news came out. In fact, it was the week after I had a Serious 'screamin fit' w/ my Work Manager. I could Feel my Vocal Cords Screamin, but, I couldn't Hear myself. Needless to say she Fired me. Found out the Triggers at the same time. Over-worked! 5 hrs Straight w/ No Break! No Lunch! Stressed! Oh Well, Past History. ;(

Jason? Do You keep a Journal? After reading your previous post, I would say you Should! Chek out Journal under Tips to be sure you are including all necessary info. Also, how Many times have you had 'suspected' Or witnessed activity on your med? TegrestolXR

Hi Jason,

sorry to hear about your experience with Keppra. I have been on it since its tesing days. I had the usual problems in regards to dopiness/sleepines. It didn't cause me to have any mood swings.

The med that caused me to have mood swings was Mysoline. I was taking that back in the '70s. I was definitely a Dr Jeckyll/Ms Hyde person. It was scarey. My mom requested that I be taken off that and be given something else. The docs did as my mom requested(more like demanded). I don't recall what med they chose.

Currently I'm taking Keppra XR in addition to oxcarbazepine(trileptal) with no problems.

Once again, it's the case that we all handle the same meds differently. We each have to found the one(s) that is right for us.

good day,
angie

It was to the point of no sleep. Not good for anyone. I wasn't willing to wait 4-6 weeks to get sleep & it done nothing for my seizures to begin with. I may as well have been taking a placebo. At the time I was not on B complex Since the episode of yesterday I rethought it talked to my pharmacist & they agreed with me. They thought it was a good idea too.

I have a friend who was in a horrific biking accident 2 years ago and is on Keppra. He is doing very well on it.

He wound up with 5 bleeds in his brain all in different spots so his szs are all ldifferent since the beleeds are in different spots,

He has partial--both simple and complex, Absence, T/Cs, and still in denial about it.

He does NOT realize that Keppra is made spefically for epilepsy and nothing else.

HIs wife wanted to go back to the scene with out him s oshe did and got some closure out of it. Made her feel better.

he has accidents out is rear end and makes horrendous messes.

One time their dog Elton did a #2 and he walked in it several times and neveer knew it was there.

Another time her family and mine were in Golden COrral and yes we have it here in Hi.I Had a rather noisy COmples PArtiall and that caused him to have a simple partial sz thatcaused him to have the shivers real bad but ut was a sz. His wife not too educated on this s tuff thought he was really cold becuase ofthe way he looked ordered him a coffee, and my hubby told her that he was having a sz of some sort.

They had NO clue what was going on and what they really looked like.

I bought them a book called Living with Epilepsy and other SeizureDisorders. She read it abd got the info she needed then I let her biorrow my other books one called 199 answers by a doctor to his patients. GREAT book answers ALOT of anyones questions.

HArd to find, though. But he had a sz while we were there nad now he will NOT go back he is afraid I will have another one in front of him. IT was the wear ther that was affecting me. Huge THunderstorm. It rains in HI alot.

so we do not go there anymore we pick different places. HE liks fast food but we all try to stay away from them.
