Inguinal Hernia causing ED

This past year I noticed my erection wasn't as hard as it was and I started having problems with keeping the erection and also had a pain in my scrotum. I finally went to the doctors office for the pain in the scrotum and the nurse practitioner had a CBC, CMP, and testosterone levels drawn and they all came back normal. For the pain in the scrotum the nurse had me schedule an appointment with the doctor for a physical. The doctor done a full physical exam and found out that I had an inguinal hernia. Now I have to wait several weeks before I can get a ultrasound. I'm in very good shape, I work out 5-7 times a week, in my mid 20's, non smoker, and rarely get sick. Could the inguinal hernia cause the ED problems? If so after surgery will the ED problems go away?

Sheldon Marks, MD responded:
There is no cause and effect with a hernia and ED. Same neighborhood, different house. That being said, any pain or discomfort or worry about the pain can mess with erections, so possibly you might get better if the hernia is fixed.
