Alan M Kozarsky, MD responded:
A "red line" on a white eye can be a normal blood vessel. Some people have prominent normal blood vessels on the surface of their eyes. If this is the case i.e. it has always been there, if there is no discomfort, then there may be nothing to do.

If the red line is new, then it can be a "feeding" blood vessel to a area damaged by sunlight. This is quite common and can be confirmed by your eye doctor.

If the redness is brand new and especially if accompanied by discomfort of discharge, you may be describing pink eye (conjunctivitis) or some other type of eye inflammation. IF this is true, you need to be evaluated by an eye doctor to determine the best type of treatment.
