Hello, I'm very worried about my 29 yr old daughter. She has suffered from severe headaches for years. They have been getting worse and she was put on migrane meds. some time ago. Three times within a month her eye looked bloody, it would gradually go away and it would happen again. She went to her med doc and he told her to go to her eye doc. Eye doc sent her to specialist but he wont see her till monday. She said she sees dark floaters and when she closes her eyes she sees sparks. She has low blood pressure, shes not over weight and she does not smoke. What could this be? No ones giving her any info. Thank you, Darlene

Alan M Kozarsky, MD responded:
There are a lot of symptoms here!

1. Flashes and floaters - the ophthalmologist will need to make sure there is not a retinal tear or detachment.

2. Recurring red eye - this can occasionally accompany some migraine variants but the ophthalmologist will need to check for eye inflammation or elevation of eye pressure as a cause of the redness.

Good luck to her. Lots of excellent reasons for her to see the ophthalmologist promptly!
