Halos,starbursts after Lasik
manojn posted:

Its been 1 month since my Lasik surgery.I am experiencing halos around images[in dim light/night> and starbursts.
I actually started a discussion long time back and got to know that these problems improve with time.
Can you please let me know how much more time it takes to get rid of these problems?Should I worry about these problems? Is it related to 'pupil's dilation past the treated part of cornea?'
I checked with my doctor and she said I dont have any problems with the eye.I have 6/5 vision.
Please suggest.
Alan M Kozarsky, MD responded:
Aberration (glare and halo) following LASIK has become far less common with the use of wavefront guided (Custom) and wavefront eroptimized treatments.

Almost all people have some aberration for a few weeks after surgery and then it gradually diminishes.

It is not as simple as just making sure the treatment is at least as large as your night time pupil. The amount of aberration that existed before LASIK, whether the treatment was specifically aimed at decreasing aberration (eg. Custom Wavefront, Wavefront optimized, etc) and then your own adaptation to the treatment are all factors in whether you will notice glare and halo in the long run.

I actually had Advanced customvue lasik. The doctor did a wavescan before the surgery, noticed some aberration and continued the surgery accordingly.
I have an appointment with the doctor next week.Hereby I request you to suggest me what questions can be asked just to make sure everything went well with the surgery.
I sincerely hope these problems pass with time.
Thanks in advance.
Alan M Kozarsky, MD replied to manojn's response:
Tell your doctor what is bothering you about your vision and ask his or her advice. The doctor knows your pre operative condition, your laser treatment and is in the best position to offer accurate advice.
