Pink Eye/Eye Damage??

sgthappy73 posted:
About a month ago I developed a severe case of conjunctivitis, right eye was completely red, tearing, left eye not so much. It lasted for approx. 2 weeks. Now over the past few weeks I have developed a vision problem in my right eye. My sight is out of focus and night driving is a problem. I initially thought is was cataracts (as I know I have them in the eye) because the symptoms are spot on, but I have also read about retinal scaring, which doesn't sound too promising. Going to Dr. but can't get in for a month. Optometrist tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. Any suggestions on what it could be??

Without diagnosis it is very difficult to say whether it is cataracts and retinal scaring or not. So better you should consult an eye surgeon. All the better.

Alan M Kozarsky, MD responded:
There are multiple kinds of viral eye infections which can cause corneal and therefore visual problems as well as the typical picture of "pink eye". (Conjunctivitis).

You need to see the eye specialist to distinguish between many possibilities including viral corneal infection vs effects of excessive eye drop treatment or eye rubbing.
