Pain in eye/temple

rachel_head posted:
For the last week or so I have been getting these strange pains in my right eye and now at times my left. I am not sure how to explain the pain but it almost feels like something is pushing on my actual eyeball inside my head. I tend to feel it in my eye at first and then at times I feel it in my eye and temple region as well. I wear contacts and just had my exam last August. I also change the contacts regularly like I should and wear my glasses at home and at night. I am just not sure if this is something I should see my eye doctor for or not. Anyone have any ideas?

Alan M Kozarsky, MD responded:
Nothing specific comes to mind as far as a definite diagnosis is concerned. This kind of discomfort might be based in an eye problem or outside the eye. An unusual kind of eye strain perhaps related to an imperfect contact lens or eye glass prescription is possible. Sinus problems could present with this type of symptom. There are some types of headaches that can feel like this.

If your symptoms continue, a visit to your ophthalmologist followed, if necessary, a visit to your primary care doctor will be required.
