Flashes of light left eye
mikekr posted:
I have started to see flashes of light in my left eye. They are intermittent and look like a rainbow. I have no pain associated with this. I had LASIK surgery 8 years ago and my annual check ups have been fine. Any ideas? Thanks Mike
Alan M Kozarsky, MD responded:
New flashes of light in one eye certainly earn you an expedited visit to the ophthalmologist. The concern is the possibility of a spontaneous retinal tear which can become a retinal detachment. The flashes of light that occur with retinal tears are typically like photography flashes going off in the periphery of vision. These may be accompanied by new floaters. You can also get scintillating lights with migraines and other issues but with the new observation of flashing lights, a full dilated eye exam is in order.
