Pick Up & Play

I pick up my girls from school every day. I always pack them a healthy snack to eat in the car as we discuss what park or playground we'd like to hop to that afternoon. We have enough fun spots between school and our home scoped out to go somewhere different after school for about two weeks, though we admittedly have our favorites. Our criteria is that it is outside, fun, and mostly on the way home. I insist we be home by 5 so we have plenty of time for our afternoon routine, which gives us an hour and fifteen minutes of travel time and play. I always keep a Frisbee in my "mom bag", but we've talked about keeping our kites in the trunk here recently with blustery days ahead. I am a shutterbug, so while they play I take lots of photographs and make sure to give them a wide berth unless they want more attention with a game or when finding a cool bug/critter/flower/etc. Weather rarely deters us, and we are in the sixth week of school with about two days where we let the thunder and lightening chase us indoors.
