after the cast

so about 4 wks ago i slipped on some ice and broke my ankle. the following week i had surgery (ORIF of the right ankle) to put a small plate in to stabilize the bone, and was splinted for 2 weeks. a few days ago, the surgeon put me in a cast which is much more comfortable, except now in the past 2 days, whenever i'm on my feet (walking on crutches, etc), you can see a color change in my foot (exposed in the front of the cast) - there is some bruising still from the surgery & trauma, but it turns a dark purple/red color - it indicates to me that my circulation is not quite up to dealing w/ the lack of elevation yet - although it wasn't this bad while in the splint...any suggestions other than elevation, ice & rest?
