Hello everyone. I've been lurking. Things have been not good lately. (Maybe I'll post about my dramas later) I came out of lurkdom to speak my mind.

I am absolutely for this new drug but I think we are missing the point. Marijuana should be legalized. Millions of people use it. They are your relatives, friends and neighbors. They have jobs, pay taxes and go to church. Should they be ostracized because they use pot recreationally?

I have smoked herb off and on for years. I will admit it does make me "high" - that was the point of doing it. Before anyone asks I do not smoke dope and drive. Heck, I am afraid to take any meds and drive, so I suffer until I get home.

I believe in marijuana's medical benefits. These past three plus years pot has helped me manage my fibro problems. It's a muscle relaxer and pain reliever. I also slept much better than I do now. I used much less Percocet and muscle relaxers when I use herb.

I am now using a CPAP machine and have decided to give up pot. It's been over a month since my last toke and I have been miserable. My pain med usage is much higher again (pardon the pun ) Ambien and the CPAP machine do help me fall asleep and stay asleep - for that I am grateful. I cannot fall asleep during the day. You folks who can take a nap during the day are sooo lucky! Pot helped me fall asleep in my chair for a 20 - 30 minute nap and I felt better for it.

The biggest drawback? Getting the munchies.

JMO - I am now off my soap box.

Back to lurkdom...

Well I wasn't going to respond to this one... really...

My DH is an officer... soooooo... that an the ol ex and his ways.... prob not for me.....

My question though is this...

this is not pot.... this is a synthetic to deal with the pain levels and anxiety? So you are getting the medicinal purpose without the high? You aren't smoking pot... its a pill? that can alleviate pain, and help with anxiety?

Anti-depressants alter your mood.... as do anti anxiety... as do some pain meds.... so if there is one that mimics pots beneficial uses without the "smoking" and burning the lungs... and the "highs"... thats not such a bad thing right? and it would be legal...

IT IS LEGAL WHERE I LIVE FOR MEDICINAL PURPOSES! I have a friend that has his card... he uses it for pain...

I have anxiety issues... have tried I think one too many WRONG anti-depressants... including St Johns Wart.. I quit taking paxil? because I was sooooo happy (high) all the time....

I am throwing in a neutral vote until i read the article... although... me personally... would still prob decline with DH line of work... hehehehe

And Jaye... quit lurking...check in from time to time... ((((HUGS))))

Hi Chelle,

I agree with your statement:

" so if there is one that mimics pots beneficial uses without the "smoking" and burning the lungs... and the "highs"... thats not such a bad thing right? and it would be legal..".

This would be great for the folks who disagree with pot's recreational aspects.

But then there's the rest of us who are just old stoners...

Last night when I read this, I couldn't figure out how to word my reply in order to make the point I wanted to make....

This morning I came back to it and .........Chelle has written it for me! Thanks....

I agree with what she said. This is a synthetic drug in a pill, not pot that you smoke. I think there is a big difference.

It has side effects just like all the other drugs that we take for pain, anxiety and sleep. In fact it has some of the very same side effects that Lyrica has.

So I guess my answer would be that I would be open to learning more about this and giving it a try if my drs suggested it some time down the road.

Yes I would consider taking taking Nabilone for fibromyalgia and anxiety. the meds I am taking are not working. I have Fibro, osteoprosis and disc diese. I take morphine sulf and neurontin and zanaflek. I can't do my home work or anything else and most of the time I am in severe pain. I can't bend over, run my sweeper ar scrub mp floors. I am so depressed I can;t stand it much longer. Wanda Adams

This is tough one for me. When I was a kid, I had friends who could operate very well, had good jobs, did well in school under the influence. For me, it was purely recreational, when I had nothing more to do but listen to music or watch Fantasia (the Disney movie, not the A.I. star).

So, I did not operate well when there was serious work to be done. I will be working for at least another twelve years, and need to be on my toes. So I don't think it would be good for me at this point in my life. Some websites I saw about Nabilone said it did not produce euphoria; others said it did. I certainly would welcome some euphoria and a break from pain, but I can't do it now.

If it ever happens that I can no longer function in this world due to Fibro, I would welcome it.

I have been on Wellbutrin since mid December. It does absolutely nothing to relieve pain. In fact it may heighten it. But I take it because my thinking seems to be clearer, and I seem to be more energetic and decisive. Come to think of it, I was never the type of kid that liked the downer type stuff that so many of my peers enjoyed. I gravitated more to the speedy little things I took (infrequently) to get my term papers done.

I might like Nabilone on weekends, though!

Hi All,

I have FM and have been on heavy narcotics for almost three years. I would do just about anything to try to help my pain. This is the worst thing I have ever felt in my life the medications I take ease the pain THANK GOD or I would have no quality of life. I have tried everything, every therapy, seen at least 40 Drs in the last three years. Before I got FM I never took a drug in my life I think that everybody is different and everybodys pain varies unfortunatly my pain tolerance is very low and my reaction to pain meds is very high( I need more for them to effect me). People who can take baths, exercise and to not take narcotics for this horrible pain ripping thing I hope and pray for you that you never get to the point I am at and to the point that many of the people who I have met in groups are at. YES I WOULD TRY IT SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS BECOMES AVAILBLE..

Yes, I would consider evaluating Nabilone. I tried Lyrica a couple of times, but couldn't adjust to the side effects, such as dizziness and blurred vision. I am managing pretty well with Ultram (Tramadol) for pain relief. As for the pot users reporting pain control, you need to consider the harmful pulmonary affects of smoking, whether marijuana or tobacco. Smoking Marijuana has been shown to be at least as damaging if not more so than smoking tobacco, with increased risk of COPD, emphysema, Lung Cancer, etc. It is the products of combustion, such as the tars and carbon monoxide which are the problems. If you are a smoker (pot and/or tobacco), you should ask your Dr about pulmonary function testing to evalutate for any impairment. Taking medical grade cannibal or Nabilone avoids the detrimental affects of smoking. Best to all my fellow fibromatics.

You know I think I would try anything that might allow me to have my life back. I've already done the tylenol 3 and vicodine, not much help. Worse I ended up with liver failure due to the tylenol. Now I have to try to get through the pain. and more of my life is gone. Can't take very much tylenol anymore so Ultram is my only pain relief. It would be so nice to have any kind of relief from the pain. What ever it takes.

Yes.. I have used Marijuana off and on for the last couple of years for not only the Fibro but also for three herniated disc.. and it works well for me. Especially at night.. it is sooo good to get some sleep..you all know that...which cuts down on the pain and in turn cuts down on the depression.. and for me I am able to cut down on the Rx meds. I worry about what the meds are doing to my liver and I figure if I can cut down on those I'm doing a little bit better. I wish I could cut those out all together. .. but if this pill can give me the same results I'm all for it.. it's not the high I'm after.. I have enough fog as it is. I know so many people with different ailments that go this route for pain and it works... eventually the government will have to legalize it nation wide.. here in Ca it is legal but the government doesn't recognize it... I'll tell you one thing.. if they were to legalize it. there would be a huge drop in crime.. not violent crime because it makes you anything 'but' violent.. but in the growing and selling of it... anyway that's 'my' opinion.. I would not be adverse to giving this drug a try, if it would help me manage my pain. But as some of the other's here have indicated, I am afraid this drug would increase my level of fatigue which is something I battle with constantly. In addition, I can only imagine that the drug might also have a side effect of weight gain, as is indicated by Lyrica. Anyone know if this is true? I definitely do not want to exchange one condition for another. Thanks.
