I have a doctor appointment, and I am thinking of asking the doc to take me off of Cymbalta. I just think I need a break to see how I do...what do you think?

I went off the Cymbalta about a year ago. My pain was out of control and I was constantly in at my docs crying and begging her to rip out my spine. Literally. I was sure I would be better without a spine than in the pain I was having.

I tapered down, the plan was about 3 weeks but due to some other issues, I came off it within a week. And I had no issues coming off it.

And, I haven't had the horrific, nauseating pain in my spine since..... Who knows if there is a connection, but I think so.

For me, I "test" my meds periodically. One at a time with my doc's knowledge and help. This way I feel confident I'm on the right meds for me right now. And it's easy to know. When I went off the Cymbalta, I felt better, not worse. When I tested out my Neurontin a few months back, I felt the pain just going down 100 mgs, so back to my dose of that quick like!

Good luck, I hope whatever you do it works for ya!

I was on Cymbalta for about a year. My PCP changed me to it from Lexapro because it is supposed to be approved to treat FM pain. Well it didn't work! and I was so depressed. When I finally got in to see my PM doc, he took me off the Cymbalta and put me back on my beloved Lexapro 20 mg daily. My mood is so much better!! He alsoput me on Savella 50 mg BID, Norco 10/325 TID PRN, Valium 10 mg daily, and Azulfadine 500 mg TID(anti-inflammatory). I have been on this regime for 2 months and my pain levels are so much better!! I still have my bad days and I still suffer from fatigue, so I rest when I can, but I am so much happier, more than I have been in 3 years.

Aimee...I am particularly interested in what you said. It isn't that I want a difference between cymbalta and lexapro...I want off to see what the effect is...and yes, my back and spine are aching...so that is what I hope will happen...plus maybe lose a pound or two???

I hope so! I ended up going on an old tricyclic anti-depressant, Pamelor. I have lots of depression issues, so I needed something to help control that. And for the past year, it's worked pretty well for me, and the Neurontin gives me enough relief from the neuropathic pain, I can deal with the rest most days.

It just stinks though that we have to go through all this... I'm so ready for them to figure something better out!

Cece,

I don't think there's anything wrong with trying it out to see what you feel like-- it is ultimately your body and if you want to do this the try it-- and i know you will do it the right way.

I often want t see what i woud be like med free-- but i know just by going down in my gabapentin--the pain has increased some-- i am staying at 900 and dealing with alittle pain because the higher the dose for me the more i want to crash and sleep. I need to work and the fatigue was horrible--.

Give it a shot and see--good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hugs.............Linda
