Dr. P.,
I just gotta ask you this question and I know you will have the answer.
What the heck is the 'normal range' for a person's Vitamin D?
My Rheumy said I was high, but with in normal range at 69. Which of course makes me feel great. But I keep seeing posts here where people in the FMily think it is between 30-50. But have heard that 32 is the beginning of the normal range. I am totally confused.
HELP.. I would really like to get the Final, for sure, this is right low number, normal range and then high range and put this question to bed once and for all.
Thanks,
Linda R <3

Not Dr. P. but I've heard that it's anywhere from 35 to 100.
I think it just depends on the Dr. Everyones "scale" is a little different. Sounds like yours is pretty good though so keep up the good work. Do you take supplements?

Warm thoughts & soft hugs

Hi Linda,

The 25-hydroxy vitamin D test is the most accurate way to measure how much vitamin D is in your body. The "normal range" was recently modified as we are learning more and more about its importance. (and thanks to MiMI's efforts here!) Researchers realized that too many people were deficient even at 20 The previous low was about 20. Now it's been increased to about 30, with the high end about 80 (I say "about" because of the variations among different lab facilities) So 30-80 range is "normal." I try for 50 in the patients I'm treating.

The vitamin D gurus tell us they really don't see Vit D toxicity, and the true high end is probably unknown. I've never seen anyone with a level over 100 yet. The emphasis is on detecting Vit D deficiency which is widespread, and treating it.

Bless You Dr. Pellegrino! I am being seen by a Rheumatologist up at Vanderbilt, top notch, lucky I got in with him, and he said my D level was on the high end of normal at 69. He added that he was hoping to keep my numbers in that range with 50,000 of D3 a month and 2000 of D3 a day. I asked what happens if I go over.. he said Stones! Too much calcium with out Magnesium in the mix and over time I'd get stones.. He said that it's tricky now to get the amounts just right since the science is so new on what D levels should be. And never thought to ask what the'normal' range/ level was. : (
So let just say Thank you so much for posting the range numbers. I'm gonna be writing them down so when I tell people it should be in this range I'll be telling them correctly.
Yippee.
Soft hug going out to you Dr. P.!
Linda R.
