I was diagnois with Fibromyalgia about four months or so ago, which I knew I had. The pain was unbearable. The first doctor I went to just wouldn't listen. My brother has lupus and so was set that I had lupus also, told her I did not like taking pills but when I left her office I have like 7 prescriptions. My husband got transfer due to his job and my insurance found me a doctor in PA and he's the best. He's a rhuemotoglist and he actually sets and listens to me and how I've been doing since my last visit with him. The pain and what I found that caused it, from stress to eatting the wrong food. When I need to talk to him between our visit I call and he always call me back. He listens and my husband well I cannot explain. He's always at my doctors appointment with me and asking questions to learn more and what he can do to help. What we can eat and not eat, what massages he can do to help me and what to look for if the pain gets to the point its time for the ER. This is new to me and very aggravating. I workout and hurt, I whether give child birth than suffer with this crap, and yes I have given child birth and with no drugs wasn't bad at all.
Does any one here have issues with food triggering your pain?

Hello Navywife.....and welcome.....MiMi in NC....sorry that you too have met the wrath of the dragon....but I am glad that you have found a good doctor who listens to you....and I am glad that your DH (dear husband) is supporting you....

I know that these 2 things are some of the best.....a good doctor and family support....and yes...I think just about anything can trigger FM....knowing our limits and pacing are about as important....

I have learned with time.....and it took me a long time before I was able to put them together to know.....and there are still some days....that I have no idea what I did to upset the FM...
I think a lot of mine comes from stress....and it is hard to limit some types of stress...so I have to learn how to deal with this the best that I can...

I would encourage you to ask your doctor to check your Vitamin D level....which is so very important for a lot of people....as low Vitamin D can cause pain within itself...this is a simple blood test...but you MUST ASK the doctor to check it....as it is not one of the common things included in the bloodwork that is done....

I have learned how to "control my FM pain" by taking vitamins and supplements....and doing other things to cope with it...
I take magnesium and malate combination supplement (found at vitamin stores) Omegas, Super B Complex, Vitamin D, and Calcium, plus others....as I do have multiple health issues...
What helps one may or may not work for someone else....and it does take time to work....most anything that you try will take at least 6-8 weeks before you can "feel" a difference....

There are all sorts of good info under Tips and Resources to the right of this page....be sure and read member toolbox and nutrition and vitamins....I am sure that you will find some things that perhaps you have not thought of to try....

I hope you will post often, ask questions, make comments or suggestions.....

Take care and good luck...

Yes I know stress really triggers mine but also the wrong food. I've notice when I eat fry food I hurt I'm miserable so no more fried chicken and that sucks because I'm from the south. But living where I do now really helps. I love the outdoors but the heat down south didn't work with my asthma. So yes I have fibromyalgia and asthma together which sucks, lol. But I will not let this win. I will continue to wrtie down eveything different I've done daily and what triggers it and still live life and hopefully keep the same doctor for a while.
Yes my husband is great, my children which are grown and I have grandbabies don't seem to somewhat understand but my husband explains what he can when they ask.

Welcome! It's great that your spouse is so supportive. Some here do beleive that certain foods cause problems for them, especially if you also have the IBS that often goes along with FM.

A well balanced, healthy diet with lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, low fat dairy and lean protein is good for everyone.

Some of the most common items recommended to avoid are artificial sweeteners and simple sugers. You could try keeping a food diary and tracking your symptoms to see if you find any coorelation between the two.
Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you decide to see beyond the imperfections. hugs Sharon

It's been a while since my last post and setting reading all of your responses. OMGOSH where to begin, lol. Been pretty busy with everything but... doing good. I find that its foods certan foods like milk, mashed potatoes but what really kicks it off is mustard, mayo, ketchup and absoutely NO PIZZA, No hamburgers, no breads really. I do eat toast which don't seem too bad. I still hurt but its not gotten to worse. At times my legs, feet seems so tight that I don't want to walk. My arms are so tender to the touch but I make do. I just try to place it to the side unless I'm really badly hurting. I still workout, walking, crunches, dancing and hurt through it all but have to continue. I hope you all are doing better also. Thanks for the responses. Oh yeah grandmother again so now I have five beautiful grandbabies to keep me movtiatived. LOL

Hello again and welcome back.......My goodness it has been a very long time since you posted....so glad that you posted again...I hope that you have asked your doctor to check your Vitamin D level...low Vitamin D does cause some of us to have additional pain and it can also affect other issues as well...

Learning how to pace, pace and pace even more is also a must for me....it took me a long time to figure out what I can do and just how much my body will stand...

Drinking lots of water and also watching what I eat also helps...along with using the heating pad as needed...and stopain spray...(found at walmart and this is good stuff)...as needed..

We are all different and what helps one may or may not help someone else....it does take a trial and error process on whatever you decide to try....we should at least allow enough time though to figure out if something is working - at least 6-8 weeks - unless, of course, what we are doing is making things worse...(which can also happen)

I hope you will post more often...

Congratulations on the new grandbaby....I am sure you are quite proud....I know that I truly love mine...I have 3 but only get to see my 2 little boys...who are 2 1/2 and 5...they are the apples of my eye....

Take care.

yes its been a while, things have changed so much since I last post. My doctor makes sure I get a Vitamin B12 shot once a month and my Vitamin D. I try to take my other vitamins but there are times when I forget, lol. I've learn not to eat mustard, certain seasoning, dressing, sour cream and have to deal with 2% milk, ugghhh. Stress I still struggle at times not to have any but at least no DRAMA, jeez. Besides that I'm doing okay. They are keeping an eye on my liver because I was on a tyneol thing my doctor in Indiana had put me on and they see certain signing, don't figure. She had me taking over 300 mg. three times a day. So we are keeping a eye on my liver. So you all be careful stay away from asprins especially tyneol. Besides that I have a new grandbabies, now I have 5--2 boys and 3 girls. Best gift God has given me besides my two kids. Now I get to see them grow up I hope. Hope all is well with you. Keep me post g/f.
