Lyrica

I have been struggling with Fibro for over two years. I was very hesitant in trying medications, but have started Lyrica in late October. Today, I increased Lyrica from 100mg to 150mg - per my doctor - am feeling increasingly unable to concentrate and lightheaded. Has anyone taken Lyrica? Has anyone had any success with Lyrica? I have tried Cymbalta, without success, vitamins and other supplements, physical therapy, and chiropractic care. Is there anything to improve this illness?

Hello Pam and welcome.....MiMi in NC....I can not help you with the Lyrica....but I did want to tell you that I also tried several different medications for FM.....and was not able to take any due to side effects....I think that all medications have side effects....I also tried Cymbalta....for 2 weeks and got really sick on it....could not understand this....as my daughter took it and it helped her....

I will also tell you this....that I have had all sorts of health issues....I finally decided to do my own research and finally figured out just what my body needed to cope with the FM pain....I now take vitamins and supplements..and also use other "tools and tips" to "control my FM pain"....I take magnesium and malate combination supplement (vitamin store) Omegas, (fish oil, salmon and krill) Vitamin D supplement, Super B Complex and Calcium plus others....as I also have other health issues...but these are the ones which help me cope better with the FM pain...

Now...I will also tell you that I am NOT painfree...nor do I expect to be...but I am so much better than when I first got sick...it took me a trial and error process though which did take time and effort....for me to figure out what I needed...

I would also encourage you to be sure and ask your doctor to check your Vitamin D level....low Vitamin D is common for a lot of us FMers....and this can cause additional pain too....I found this out the hard way...(if you are interested you can check out my personal exchanges...Wrath of the Dragon : Support Group and Vitamin D and Pain: Support Group ....
it is a long story...and I am sure that others do not want to read it again...

Living with the wrath of the dragon which is a mean and ugly illness presents challenges to a lot of us each and every day....but I am sure that you will eventually find something that will also help you....

Be sure and read the info under "Tips" and "Resources" that you will find to the right of this page...be sure and see "member toolbox" and "nutrition and vitamins".

We are all different and what helps one may or may not help another.....but only you will know when you have found something that works for you...

I hope you will post often, ask questions, make comments or suggestions...

Take care and good luck...

Hi, sorry that you aren't getting the relief you need from the meds. I saw my rheumatologist a few weeks ago, he said there are no effective meds for this, no cure. All we can do is give meds to relieve pain and sooth the nerves. I left in the same pain that I took in.

I am on Gabapentin, I asked the dr if that and Lyrica are about the same thing thing. The answer was yes. They do the same work, I assume just a slightly different formulation of the same med. I started having breathing problems. I went to the ER as I was really having a problem. I talked to the nurse who found nothing wrong, my oxygen was normal. I didn't see a dr that time as none were avilable: in the Er and no dr's?

The next time I saw a dr who set me up for a treadmill test. Already done that, heart imagining, EkG's, you name it. No heart problems, cardiologist said the same thing. My PC and an Allergy dr said it also. It turns out it was the Gabapentin.

I saw an ad for lyrica, warnings included: breathing problems. Who would have thought that. Be careful, take your meds, but if you have that type reaction-it could be the med.

How great it would be if some famous, very influential persons got Fibro, then there would be tests and research done to find a cure.

Hello and welcome..

I have not taken Lyrica. I did take Cymbalta and it was a big help to me. I do understand the concentration problem is a Lyrica problem...Some of the stuff with Lyrica does go away after awhile, I do understand...but if you are having problems...do contact your doctor and check with him/her to make sure all is ok..

As Mimi said...do read the tips and toolbox post to the right of here.. lots of good ideas to help you..

Make sure you are taking your vitamins

Make sure you are doing some stretching and getting a little exercise...got to get that blood moving...

hope you feel better..
