have been having alot of pain in my sternum area. it makes me panic, thinking i'm having a heart attack at times. i also get these strange electrical sensations that start in my sternum and go out to my arms, through my body and down my legs. it's like a cold sensation that only lasts a few seconds. i was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this?

Yes I have had those same feelings. I was diagnosed with the Costrocondritis for the sternum pain. This was when I was having symptoms and did not know what was going on. I also had the electrical sensations. It's just so crazy to me when I hear others describe what I am feeling or have felt in the past. The good thing is that you are here with people who understand and can comfort you. This website has been a valuable tool in dealing with this illness.

Hi Hun... Yes Hun... You are not alone... I am up tonight with that very same problem... Or should I say morning...

It Is 4 am... I would like to sleep another couple of hours but then I would sleep thru getting my son up so I just stay up... have missed a lot of my quiet time lately anyway so it is cool to get caught up.....

I went thru every cardiology test out there. It is Costrocondritis... A part of this syndrome...

It does feel like you are having a heart attack... and I still tend to have things checked out... l have blood pressure problems and can't treat it with medications so I see my cardiologist every 3 months... Once again pain related... When the pain level is high... blood pressure is high... yet if pain level if down there.... so is the blood pressure and if I am on meds for it I go too low...

If you are having this and haven't been checked out by a dr get it checked out... We can't tell you there is nothing to worry about... a specialist can... don't let new symptoms go by without having them checked out... I hear a lot of "It is FM"... but it is better then something being very wrong and going untreated...

You know... it is almost 5:30 here.... AM... MMMMM.... I am perfectly slow today... lol... lol... lol... I expected it to take a bit of time but wow an hour and a half lol... I hope something I said helped...

You take care... hope you reel better soon...
Take care... Bless you... Love in Christ... Jan

Hello and welcome.....MiMi in NC.....you might have rib pain or Costochondritis....but you always need to get seen by a doctor to verify that this is what you have....it does feel like a person is having a heart attack...and it hurts me to breathe when I have it....I have had several bouts of it on the right side, left side and in the back also.....the first time I had it....I was also thinking that I was having a heart attack since I hurt so bad....my son took me by the fire department first and a paramedic took my blood pressure which was extremely high...and they also hooked me up for a electrocardigram which prints out what is going on with a person's heart....

He then told me that he thought I needed to go to the ER...
And I went....I actually stayed overnight....but they could not find anything wrong with my heart....the doctors then told me that I needed to rest, take aleve and use moist heating pad....the aleve did nothing for me...and my daughter told me that I should try the Advil (gel)....I did and this helped me...but again...it takes time....there is nothing quick to fix anything that goes on with the wrath of the dragon, aka FM....

This is not a good feeling....but agian....I encourage you to be sure and get checked out by a doctor....which is so very important....we can not blame everything we have on FM....because it might be something else...

I have been there done that...I hope you will feel better soon...

I would also encourage you to be sure and ask your doctor to check your Vitamin D level...which is so very important for a lot of people....low Vitamin D can cause additional pain for us...it is a simple blood test...but you MUST ASK the doctor to run it....as it is not included (yet) in the bloodwork that they normally do....

I would also encourage you to check out the info under "Tips" and "Resources" to the right of this page....you will find some good "tools and tips" that might help you cope better.....

Take care and good luck...
