Getting to know everyone

Being new here and having fibro in common with everyone is a connection of comfort. I would like to get to know everyone better.

I would love to hear what the members love to do. I am a mother of 2 grown children who light up my world. I don't get to see them often. My son lives 2 hours away and my daughter lives almost 4 hours away. She is in her final year of college. My son graduated 4 years ago. I have been married to my wonderful husband for over 28 years. He is my rock and I am thankful that he understands and goes the extra mile to keep me as comfortable as possible.

I enjoy gardening. Both vegetable and flowers. New to the gardening. Trying all organic planting. We live as green as possible and adding new green techniques everyday. I sew too. I make t- shirt quilts for friends and family. Memory quilts are a joy to make for someone. Cooking is passion as well. Baking too! My husbands loves to try my new recipes. He is on a heart healthy diet, so my cooking stays within his diet. I also love to do crafts. Bottle cutting and woodworking is top of the list but other crafts fall in there if I see something I want to make.

Recently "retired" at age 46 thanks to the beast. But enjoying not working. I can rest when I need to not when I can. Please share your interests, hobbies and anything else so we can all get to know each other.

I am glad I found this group and am looking forward to the responses!

Welcome Kim,
You are a busy bee. I can just work to live. Not so lucky to retire as yet, I carry the health insurance. SO, the feet keep moving despite the mess we are in.

I can paint, I have paintings at the office hanging....but haven't since trigger point injections it is hard to have my arms up to the canvas, or stand at the canvas. I will return at some point.

I crochet, pacing the hands...only afghans. But all have received one as agift and memory of me.

Our yard also has a garden and I love flowers and in August, silk replaces the real....so color stays in my world. (I can be very tricky)...

I plan a project to do in or out of the house alot to use as a distraction med. Works well when the body says yes! You have to go with the flow.

Well, welcome to you...keep the sun on at your house!

Hi Kim I sew and crochet too. Working outside is pretty much out for me. I crash before I really get anything done and then I'm paying for it for a couple days. I like to do water exercise and the YWCA is cheap and the water is warm. I used to do pottery but I can no longer lift the clay or the kiln furniture. Sometimes I want to try again because it was my main hobby. I like all kinds of crafts and have done a little silver smithing My boys are grown and live in other cities. I live by myself and work part time. I hope to retire(again for about the third time) by December. When I work I have absolutely no energy for anything else. I read a lot too. Mostly fiction Mart

Thanks for responding Fellow fibro warriors. I love to hear about other hobbies people have.i am walkways looking for new things to try. I use pinterest to find a lot of my ideas. Wonderful site!

Oldnow, I love to read also, but haven't done in a while. I don't know why. I enjoy mysteries. Mostly murder/crime books.

Nancy, I do things to keep my mind off the pain too. Until it just becomes too much.

Have a great day!

Hi Kim, and welcome!

I'm an obsessed knitter. I have knit almost everything at least once. My current projects include socks, a cardigan and a lace wrap. The short story about the cardi - I was running out of yarn, and realized I was making the wrong size, and tore it out. 8-( I knit mittens all year, one pair every week, and at the end of the year I donate them to a local children's charity. I love sitting by a p[ool on vacation in August and someone asks what I'm knitting. Parents usually tell their kids they're going to leave the lady alone... LOL And with 28 nieces and nephews I usually have someone to knit for! BTW, my DH doesn't wear sweaters.

I also own a graphic design business that is failing. Most of my clients have pulled their work in-house, and I'm paralyzed at the thought of closing it up. I've given myself til June 15 to make a decision.

Lou,

Sorry to hear about you business. I know you put lots of tears and sweat into it. People usually do for something they are passionate about.

I never learned how to knit. Finding someone to teach a left handed person is not easy. Lol. I taught myself to crochet and can just do basic stitches. I get frustrated trying to find a book for lefties and making sense of right handed instructions is too confusing. It's hard enough with a sewing machine. Believe it or not, they are also made for right handed people. Your quest to supply mittens to the under privileged is admirable! Keep it up!

Hi Kim! It's nice to get to know you a little bit. I share some of your interests.

Gardening is something I grew up around, so I like to get out there and dig in the dirt, FM willing. It feels good to get all dirty and then come in and take a hot bath with Epsom salts and fragrance. Then it's pajama time.

I've always liked cooking. My current challenge there is keeping the cost down, flavors good, effort minimized, and whole grains and vegies emphasized. Therefore I've learned a lot about dried legumes this year. Yum. My DH has been baking bread of all kinds for us and he has improved his skills lately. He has been unemployed for quite a while now, so our budget is really tight.

This year I've taught myself how to crochet and knit. I'm hooked. Right now I'm wearing the most comfortable slippers ever, and I crocheted them!

I used to love to fly fish for Bass and panfish, but we've not gone out in a couple years. I don't think I could do it for long now, but I did love it.

One thing I can barely still do is bowl! I love to bowl league once a week, but pay for it for two days! I used to bowl 2 or 3 times a week before FM, and held a 184 average.

Reading is another great distraction from the FM symptoms. I like to find free ebooks on my smart phone. Mostly sci-fi and fantasy.

FM has put a damper on the fun, physical things to do. But, like you, I still give things a go, with added caution, and time to recuperate.

My 3 cats are my best buddies. I love them and enjoy their personalities. They are my "kids."

Nice to chat with you all, and share a little.
With Compassion,
Margaret

Hi Kim,
I am Jilly and I am in the UK. I am a ballet dancer/teacher. I have one son ( in law enforcement in the USA), 2 step daughters, 4 lovely grandsons (USA) and 3 step granddaughters who I really consider to be my own . Hubby now retired but he was a master craftsman.

I have just started quilting again after many years not doing any at all.

Nice to 'meet' you,

Margaret, nice to meet you too!

We do share common interests! What fun! I too cook on a tight budget. It is challenging, but fun. Hitting the grocery store on Monday mornings is gold mine for getting marked down meat and bread. My DH loves my cooking and rarely cooks anymore. He would rather I do it. I do bake too. Going to make banana bread today.

I have a couple of pets as well. A dog who weighs 13 pounds and a cat who probably weighs 25 pounds. Lol. They are my children too and spoiled rotten.

Working I the yard is my therapy. I love to get out there and putter. Then do the same thing you do. Hot shower and pj's. Put my feet up with a glass of wine and relax. I love the sounds of nature while I work. My yard stated out as a clean pallet when we moved in over a year ago. Yard was completely covered in over grown vines. After clearing it, it was mine to do as I choose! Front and side yards are done. Back yard is getting close to being cleared and started on. Too much fun! My DH helps a lot in the yard. He does the heavy work and let's me plan away. He executes what ever my heart desires.

Jillylin,

What type of quilting do you do? I am not good enough yet to tackle a traditional quilt. T-shirt quilts are my main focus. I would love to try a traditional quilt and have been turning ideas in my mind for a simple one. I am trying my hand at simple patterns for skirts. Skirts are my favorite thing to wear. So comfortable when you have the beast.

In the uk? Where? My mom was born and raised in Manchester. I have family there somewhere. Not sure where. Don't even know names. My mom passed away when I was very young.

I am still loving getting to know everyone!
