    HCG for Fibromyalgia
    clcruze posted:
I recently just finsished my first round of HCG which allowed me to lose 27 lbs in 6 weeks. The other thing it did was take away my fibro pain. I haven't been pain free like that in so many many years. It was fantastic! I was tearing up my stomach before with nsaids and other pain meds and I only used them 3 times in that 6 weeks for headaches. I looked around a little and saw that there are many others not just with fibro, but other ailments that get pain relief from HCG. Do you know of any studies, Dr.'s, anything or anyone that uses the hcg for pain management. I will be doing another round after my 6 weeks of maintanence, but now that I am off of it, I am miserable. : ( Any idea what the long term effects might be of very low dose hcg use?

What is HCG? I've never heard of this product.
    jillylin replied to ggladieux's response:
    Me neither.
    Ohanamama replied to jillylin's response:
I believe it's supposed to be HGC, which is Human Growth Compound. This newest diet is very successful for people who are on multiple medications because it does not interfere with any meds as it is a natural human hormone produced during pregnancy. It has been reproduced in the lab, and is (I believe) injected for a short period of time for weight loss. Then, as mentioned, a break is taken, then is restarted again. I live in Hawaii and this has been successfully used here for weight loss for over two years. It is my understanding that it is very expensive while being very successful.
    clcruze replied to Ohanamama's response:
You are right Ohanamama. It was a choice I made because one doesn't need to exercise, and I can't do much more than walk. It ended up having wonderful results with the weightloss and the pain management. Although, if you go to a clinic it is very exspensive but it can be bought online at cheaper rates. One just needs to do the research to find out where. I was hioping that Mark J. Pellegrino, MD would have something to say about it. It's beginning to depress me. Each day more and more symptoms seem to be coming back. One other thing I learned from the HCG diet is that dairy apparently isn't my thing. As I have started adding dairy back to my diet, I have noticed large dark circles under my eyes and not so great feeling in my gut.
It was such a fantastic feeling not to be in pain anymore, and now it's rather depressing. It makes me think about how much is being pain-free worth...
    katmandulou responded:
HCG is human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone produced when a woman is pregnant. It is not a casual-use thing - this is a hormone a fertilized egg needs to grow. it can also be sued as a tumor marker, for weight loss and with steroids.

Margaret A Caudill-Slosberg, MD, PhD, MPH responded:
    Dear cicruze,

You might want to search the WebMD site for HCG and weight loss. There are several articles on it and it is a controversial regimen with little scientific evidence that it is the HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and not the calorie restriction that is making an impact. While the fact remains that putting weight on is so much easier than taking it off there is nothing to support that this weight loss regimen has any more staying power than the hundreds of others that have been proposed for those who are desperate and vulnerable. Proceed with caution.

As for your pain symptoms waning during treatment, this is not an uncommon occurrence when people make drastic changes to their lifestyle such as through diet or other activities. It should encourage you to continue with the calorie restriction and an exercise regimen. If you are too miserable to exercise on land you might consider pool exercises or pool therapy? Water can make it easier to move for some people with pain.
