I am so sorry you are in the trial phase of this disease. It took me 9 doctors to find my fit. Each one prior, saying something rediculous or just trying to help but not knowing what to do.
I am a nurse an ICU nurse so it is hard to argue with me, or say something *stupid to me.....but in pain and not knowing myself what was up..I continued to be beaten up a bit by all of them.
I just kept trudging forward. I looked into each class of physician, but wanting to stay with Neurolog for myself. I did that as my symptoms of burning and tingling and dyfunction were so neuro and also neck centered...I was just waiting for some test to be positive....
Well my poor neurologist who was told "If I say I am in trouble I am" by one of the cardiologist I worked with..he validated I wasn't crazy for me with this doc, this neurologist tried...but he was a stroke specialist.
SO WRONG DOC....he finally had a new partner come in that her specialty was myofascial work....she came from Boston and magic happened. EVERYTHING I had been complaining about had a reason. SHE understood me.
She showed me in her medical book by Dr. Travelle and Dr Simmons all the muscles that were in trouble.
I never felt so validated (my DH was with me) I cried....hooray for this doctor and now HER partner has me. It is 9 years I get trigger point injections to help me.
Now this is not you, but I tell you all this because we all have stories of dismay and tears in the parking lots of no test positive and no doctor hearing us. I still don't tell all my docs this story, I say I have a bad neck which effects my arms and hands and headaches....they understand that so much easier.
Also that I am under a neurologist care.
So, the specialties as Caprice said are Rheumatology, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehab (Dr P is that type of MD he is our advisor physician...OUR CHAMPION PHYSICIAN ) and then Pain management. Just keep on trying. IT is the hardest thing to find the fit, but when you do...
Like childbirth....so painful as you are in labor and then free****when the baby is in your arms!
You will make it. It seems we are a strong bunch and we only get stronger as we get ourselves in tune.
Please look in our toolbox to the right under resources for some help in the meantime. There are many non-medical things to do that will help.
For a long time Motrin was all I used but that is not the case now since I began shots. Good luck, best of luck I know your Physician Champion is waiting to meet you in some office there. I like being around large teaching hospitials..they are on the cutting edge of info and they see* a bit faster then a local doc. (My opinion) It is worth the drive. Remember though, even I had trouble getting a name for my issues.....
Good luck again, Nancy B
