What Inspires You?

Are you watching the Games in London? Sometimes stories are shared there of athletes who have overcome significant injury — including one cyclist from Australia who had a broken neck a few years ago — and that got me to wondering… do stories like that inspire you? What does inspire you?

I have so many everyday heroes around me in my own life. My brother broke his back a few years ago and was laid up for a VERY long time, but his family and friends rallied around him and he persevered; he still has pain but he was able to eventually return to work and do the things he enjoys. My father has had rheumatoid arthritis since his 40s as well as bouts of sciatica for many decades but both he and my mother continued to downhill ski and hike into their 70s and still go for daily walks now that they're in their 80s, my mother's two strokes and serious heart condition notwithstanding. My older son almost cut off his hand at the wrist in a construction accident but with a lot of patience and hard work and despite continuing nerve damage, has been able to challenge himself physically (he loves extreme sports and the outdoors) and lives a fuller life and with more joy than most people I know. And the list goes on. How about you?

What inspires me is that I control my life mentally.

Can't control on why I have pain or have the pain disappear but sure control on how I react to it or any situation.

I see many people doing the best they can without complaint.

Caprice, I think that note above says it all. I see so many people with significant challenges in their lives and it is the ones. "WITHOUT COMPLAINT" the CHAMPIONS as I say...that show up with a smile no matter how much you see them suffering......they inspire me.

It is not easy to be without complaint and that is why this support board is here. Dump it here....

The general public doesn't want to hear it. Know it or see it.

I hate even asking for assistance when I need it. Everyone forgets I do have limitations though.

So, so many champions in my world....I try and count them eachday to remind me I am not that bad. Nancy B

What a great topic!

I too have many heros in my life and people who inspire me. I admire my mother in law who have overcome some difficult times in her life to now be happy and content with herself. She has inspired me to look at the good things in my life and accept the challenges that I face.

I love to hang with her and just enjoy life just sitting and watching the wonders of nature. Neither one of us have extra money to part with but we find joy in nature at no cost. I wouldn't trade a morning on the porch with her for anything!

How wonderful, Kim, that you have your MIL in your life. It's always good to be around those who really live the 'cup half full' life.
