    Mercury Poisoning or FM
    gabuschka posted:
Hi Folks, read an article about mercury poisoning and noticed the symptoms are FM like. I grew up like many others with silver fillings containing mercury. thermometers breaking also happened. Watched the mercury beeds jump around and thought it was fun. always sick even as child. Symptoms got worse when the old fillings had to be removed even though they were replaced with resin fillings. I also found out later on that certain fish and sea food can contain high levels of mercury. I eat a lot of that food. What do you think about mercury poisoning posing as FM? I wonder how does a person get tested for that? How do you detox? Your input would be much appreciated!

Very interesting question. I'd like to know what Dr. P says about it.
    gabuschka replied to 1wareaglefan's response:
Thanks for your reply. You had a good idea. Can you help me get this to Dr. P.?
    Caprice_WebMD_Staff responded:
While the consensus is that we should all eat fish which are high in mercury in a moderate way, there is less legitimate concern about mercury fillings. (Click on that link for more info.)

I heard Dr. Oz talk about fillings & eat too much mercury.

It was about 3 weeks ago he had a show on it. My husband recorded it because I eat about5 cans of tuna a week. However I did have my fillings redone after having them for 35yrs.
    gabuschka replied to Caprice_WebMD_Staff's response:
Why are mercury fillings banned in many countries and not recommended even in this country for pregnant women - doesn't that make a person wonder? Your answer and the links are appreciated but leave me somewhat frustrated. Hard to get a straight answer to tough questions! Do you by any chance know if a person can be tested for mercury and what the treatment might consist of? Your input will be valued.
    gabuschka replied to Caprice_WebMD_Staff's response:
Wow, Dr. Kaufman! NICE SALES PITCH FOR MERCURY A TOXIC SUBSTANCE! would rather pull my own teeth than see this dentist.
    gabuschka replied to Caprice_WebMD_Staff's response:
Kaufman, now I get it - that is the german word for business man!
    Caprice_WebMD_Staff replied to gabuschka's response:
Yes, you can get a specialized blood test and should discuss with your doctor if you'd like to pursue it.

Regarding your accusations, Gabuschka, they were unfair and unnecessary. You did get a straight answer, it's just not one you happen to agree with. Please feel free to disagree but be respectful when you do so. Dr. Kaufman gives a lot of his time to our WebMD members, week after week, year after year, and he's one of the sweetest experts.

Personal comment: I would guess that dentists, etc., could make a lot more money with other kinds of fillings than silver amalgams.

Thank you for your time. I realise now I should have just GOGGLED....AMALGAM AND FIBROMYALGIA TO get valuable answers. I respectfully disagree with you. Have agreat day!
    gabuschka replied to Caprice_WebMD_Staff's response:
Regarding you personal comment: I found a new dentist who never uses amalgam fillings. The other fillings may be slightly more expensive but look beautiful. To remove amalgam fillings he recommends a trained specialist who uses security messures to protect the patient, himself and his office staff. Too bad I did not know about this until after I had most of my amalgam fillings removed by my previous dentis in a away which I now know was not the best way. Some dentists still work with amalgam fillings because that is what most dental insurances want their patients to get. The dentists get referrals of new patients through the insurance company. The amalgams may be less expensive but the volume is another factor to consider when a dentist is looking at the financial botton line.

I did a Google search for "amalgam and fibromyalgia". The first few links claimed to have "cures" for FM. Too many FM sufferers are duped into these "get well quick" schemes. Sad...
    gabuschka replied to katmandulou's response:
I usually look for official research. I found some on the second page when I googled Amalgam and Fibromyalgia. The website ending in gov. I disregarded the other sites which didn't appear to be reliable sources of information. Such as the ones you mentioned claiming to have get well quick schemes. Thanks for your input and have a great day.

Louise, are you being sarcastic? English is not my native language so I have a disadvantage here. Alles Gute! My husband is asking me if you will put me in the corner next, like a little child in school (in the old days that was a way to punish a child).
