I'm on effexor, Nobic, Levonthroid and Flexeril. The last DR. Appt I went to the Dr said to take 2 flexeril everyday. Thats what I've been doing till about 4 days ago when I ran out. Now I'm having withdrawal symptoms. I emailed my Dr who said that I sould only be taking it when needed. So I responded saying thats not what you said at my last appt. So she emailed back saying ok take 2 a day. I emailed her again saying which should I do. She said I don't know. UGH! Frustrating!! Has anyone had flexeril help at all? and did you take it periodically or daily? Thanks

Hi there,

I believe that Flexeril is cyclobenzaprine, which is a muscle relaxer. I take it only occasionally, when my back muscles have tightened up so much that I am in a lot of pain. I only take it at night unless I really, really need it sooner. That's because it makes me very drowsy. My "30 day" prescription usually lasts several months.

I think that all of the meds that I take are habit forming. I asked my doctor if I could stop taking my anti-depressant to see how I would do and she said to gradually decrease the dose, rather than stop at once.

Your doctor can help but I have found that I usually have to monitor my own meds and then let my doctor know what is happening. She is great at listening and discussing.

It sounds as if your doctor needs educating as well as you. That's how it was with my doctor. We learned together.

Good luck to you.

Soft hugs,

maggie

Hi slovene. It must feel bad to go through withdrawal like that! I learned long ago to monitor those kinds of meds closely and make sure I have some in reserve in case of bad weather and such. It's a hard lesson though!

I can't take flexeril due to side effects, but do take soma. I've cut it down to a quarter of a pill at bedtime, unless I've been over using my muscles, and then I take a half or whole pill. I read about some research on Medscape that shows muscle relaxers can help FM pain in a percentage of patients. I would show you the link if I could find it...LOL.

I hope you can figure out an arrangement with your doctor quickly, so you can feel better.
With Compassion,
Margaret

I took Flexeril for a year and a half 3x daily and was taken off of it a year and a half ago and was recently put back on it at bedtime only. IT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME! My trapezius muscles have been locked in a constant spasm for 3 years with NO relief at all what so ever. I have am appt with my rheumy for Monday but after a fall today I am going to see if I can get in tomorrow so maybe he can try something other than flexeril or skelaxin as neither has any effect on me. I didn't notice any withdrawals when I stopped taking it but you could be more sensitive to that sort of thing than I am. We are all so different.

Do you feel better taking it twice a day? If so tell your doc that it helps you so that they will continue to prescribe it in that manner.

I use my muscle relaxant 3 times a day, but worked up to that out of desparation as I work and couldn't walk out of the car at the end of the day.

I started just at night and then found the a.m. was still so tough even with sleeping better. So it is , what is your need?

Start with the P.M. for sleep and muscle stiffness and see how it goes and in the a.m. if you can't get the muscles moving or stretching out.

I personally didn't have any change to my body with Flexeril, yet others it knocks them out! I use Soma.

Good luck, it is your tool to use. If you need it 2x one day and only once at night on others....this is it. I think she is yeilding to you to see how your body is.

Good luck, remember to look in our toolbox for other tricks to help you feel better. In resources to the right "member's Toolbox. Good luck, Nancy B

About 3 months ago I started taking cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) at night - 10 mg. It has helped me quite a bit with relieving the pain from the tight muscles which would interfere with my sleep. It does make me quite drowsy - which helps me to fall asleep. I usually take it about 1 to 2 hours before I crawl into bed.

I feel like not taking them anymore just cuz I went through the withdrawal already. Really rough week at work and dealing with that! Can't wait for today to end!! I emailed my Dr and asked if there was a pain specialist I could talk to instead. I might just stick with trying it when pain is too bad. Thanks for all the input!! You guys are awesome!

I was on Flexeril 3x daily for about a year, But I just got tired of the pills so I quit one day.

Did not tell my doctor, just stopped & never did a refill. I didn't have any issues stopping cold turkey, however, everyone is different...
