The Magic Bullet

After suffering for many years, my rheumatologist prescribed a gel called Voltaren Gel 1% 100 g. The minute I applied it to my most sore spot (my hips), the pain was instanly gone. Even my doc couldn't believe how fast it worked. In the beginning I applied it 4 times a day. Now I only put it on in the morning and evening. Threre's no words to describe the wonderful relief this gel has given me. I recommended it to 4 different friends who also suffer from fibro and they, too, were shocked at how it helped them almost instantly. Ask your rheumatologist about it and see what he/she says. It's truly a magic bullet.

I have sometimes found it helpful as well (here in Canada, we don't need a prescription to get it) but everyone should be aware that with all medications - even topical ones - there are potential side effects/concerns. For information on this, click on the following link:

Voltaren Topical 1% (Some of the information there is regarding Voltaren when taken orally so not all of the info may apply but it's still worth noting.)

Julie,I havent been on here in a while so it's funny that I find your post right off. I have been helping a friend of mine search for an attorney because of this medication. She has been on V for 6 years when she suddenly became ill and had to be rushed to the er.She suffered liver failure and kidney failure and two different specialist said it was because of the Voltaren. Her heart stopped twice and she was revived. She spent three weeks in the hospital, one in ICU.She is very lucky to be alive.
Im glad you've found your magic bullet,we all want one,but please be careful.

WOW thanks for the heads up on Voltaren Gel. I have posted on it twice calling it a Magic Bullet as it has worked so well for me.
I used Voltaren Gel in September and found it to be all my Rheumy said it was. It was so good I asked for a script.. then I found out my insurence wouldn't pay for it. I then got it 'made' at a compound store. Same as Voltaren but with out the lable and 185 price tag.
I use it very spareingly... just a small amount and only twice a day.. sometimes only once. Now I may not use it at all.

The idea, Linda, is to use it carefully. Often people assume that 'topical' means it won't go into your system but it can. Used sparingly, it can be very helpful.

As noted in my post, some of the really dangerous side effects could be due to the use of the ORAL kind and/or overuse of the topical.

We just wanted to be sure that no one thinks they can slather it on. :-D

Be sure to discuss any concerns you have with your prescribing doctor. ALL medications and supplements have potential side effects.

Caprice, Thank goodness I had been told by the dr to use just a small, small, amount of this gel. Heding that warning I had been just using a small amount on the tip of a finger to smear along the rib cage line. I haven't had any bad reactions from the gel but the post did reinforce what my dr had said us as little as possible and a once a day. I haven't used it lately because the Advil 2 xs a day has taken care of the Costo pain I had been using it for and it seems to be clearing up and I will be able to stop the Advil soon. And when it comes to meds, for me, less is always best. : )

My friend was using the topical. It is absorbed bloodstream and processed by the liver. The kidney failure was the result of a chain reaction after the liver shut down.Im not saying not to use it just be careful and pay attention to you body and any changes.
