Scoliosis and exercise

My spine looks like a backwards letter S (my upper curve is 18 degrees my lower curve is 20). I was diagnosed with it my freshmen year of high school, and the doctor said it wouldn't need to be monitored because my bones were already set.


Right now I'm trying to do an exercise routine and I read somewhere that doing certain exercises can actually cause problems with my spine.

So I was wondering if anyone can give me advice or point me into a direction where I can find what kind of exercises I can do, without causing myself back problems. Any help would be appreciated.

There used to be a picture online of an x-ray of a bodybuilder showing his lordotic curve while he was holding a barbell over his head to compress his torso. The curve was incredible. There was a similar image with a bodybuilder with scoliosis. I looked but can't find them. The theory was that they were in no pain because they were so strong. I suggest that you ask your doctor for a referral to physical therapy and let them evaluate you and prescribe proper and safe exercise. PT's are specially trained and can help you.
