muscle pain around left hip

I have been working out with a trainer for 4wks now. We had concentrated on legs, arms, shoulders and abs (one area per week). I tried to work abs two days ago and had a burning pull in my hip area, two-fingers directly in front of my left hip bone. It feels like it is 3-4 inches long at an angle towards my groin. What have I pulled/torn? I would love some ideas on workouts/stretches/etc. for relief. I physically cannot pull my self up from a laying down position, so no more ab excercises until I get this pain figured out. Help!!!!! I have had protein after every workout and have used biofreeze at night for relief.
