L-Carnitine is perfect protein shake for teenagers. It improves fat loss, muscle growth, strength, endurance and recovery. Carnitine also reduces production of free radicals and muscle tissue damage.

I wouldn't say that they are harmful, I would say that as a teenager, I would stay away from them unless they are in a sports program or it was doctor recommended. I wouldn't encourage it as a recreational drink. i think people that age with such high metabolism should be getting the necessary protein from the food that they eat.
