    That was an interesting article. You would not believe how many people I know who wear heart rate monitors and work well above their target range! Let me know if you find any more articles like that one!

    Pushing your heart rate into the upper zones has many health beneifts. That providing one know what they are doing.

    It is show to increase your aerobic and anerobic capacity. It strengthens your heart, lungs and circulatory system.

    "High-intensity interval training is twice as effective as normal exercise," said Jan Helgerud, an exercise expert at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. "This is like finding a new pill that works twice as well ... we should immediately throw out the old way of exercising."

    "Experts say that's because intense bursts of activity are precisely what the body needs to build stronger muscles. Traditional workouts lasting an hour or more simply don't push the body enough.

    Interval Training in the upper zone of your heart rate increase you metabolism. Research show that up to 9 time more bodyfat is burned with intense intervals than low level aerobics.

    As Kenny points out, high intensity intervals are a good training technique, but there is some preparation to be ready for them.

    For instance, on the Biggest Loser program, before admitting participants, they put them through a battery of tests first to make sure they are healthy enough to tolerate the weekly workouts seen on the show.

    I have read of track teams that will not accept a new member who can not first run 5 miles. Does not matter the event, they want them healthy enough to handle any workouts.

    The fitter you are, the more exercise you can tolerate without strain. I'm 57, with massive heart disease but excellent fitness.

    Another one of the tricks to outstanding fitness is to limit very hard workouts to twice a week. One gains the most from adequate rest around good workouts.

    I enjoyed reading this article although it was a bit technical and heavy. I have had gym instructors tell me that I should do interval training where I push my heart rate to maximum levels in order to really intensify fat loss.

    I have pushed myself really hard to the point where you can feel a burn in your chest. I guess that is pushing it too far. I think I am going to cut way back on this interval training as I am not so sure about pushing it to the limits anymore.
